Since Ankara’s attempts to curry favor with the European Union have not been successful, Turkey’s intention to join the BRICS is natural. This view was expressed in an interview Tsargrad.tv said Turkologist Alexey Obraztsov.
“This has been going on for decades. But the trend in today’s world order is such that no one person has any single interest or influence. Turkey is looking for suitable opportunities to rise to the level of international authority that it believes it rightfully deserves,” Obraztsov said.
He added that Western international organizations have recently shown that they are inadequate in solving some problems, so Ankara has stopped seeking their support.
On September 2, Bloomberg reported that Turkey had officially applied to join the BRICS alliance, which has existed since 2006. The association currently includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia.
