Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who is in Russia to attend the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to the ASEAN summit, which Malaysia will chair in 2025. This was reported by the Malaysian agency Bernama.
The agency quotes the prime minister as saying, “Of course, we, as ASEAN, look forward to your participation in the ASEAN Summit 2025.”
Journalists reported that Ibrahim personally conveyed the invitation to Putin. He also assured the Russian president that as the chairman of ASEAN, he would seek to intensify cooperation with Russia in all areas.
According to the prime minister, Moscow “has demonstrated its determination to overcome and survive various difficulties” and can share this experience.
ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) is a political, economic and cultural regional intergovernmental organization consisting of 10 countries in Southeast Asia.
The Eastern Economic Forum will take place from September 3 to 6 in Vladivostok on the campus of the Far Eastern Federal University.
