Turkey joining BRICS is unlikely to have a significant impact on the country. That is the view in an interview with Radio 1. It was expressed political scientist, associate professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation Gevorg Mirzayan.
“This will not lead to a deterioration or improvement of economic relations between Russia and Turkey. Turkey’s decision to join BRICS is a political decision. Moreover, it is not certain that Turkey will join. The expert noted that this movement is important for him as another element of Turkish multi-vectorism.
He added that Turkey’s entry into BRICS is not beneficial for Russia, as Moscow is currently faced with the task of deepening integration within the partnership.
On September 2, Bloomberg reported that Turkey had officially applied to join the BRICS alliance, which has existed since 2006. The association currently includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia.
