The Palestinian Islamist organization Hamas has rejected the latest proposal for a ceasefire and hostage exchange with Israel, discussed in the Qatari capital Doha. This was reported by Israel Times.
Hamas said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was “putting forward new conditions and demands” to undermine negotiations and prolong the conflict in Gaza.
“We hold Netanyahu fully responsible for obstructing the mediators’ efforts and preventing an agreement from being reached,” the statement said.
Israeli TV channel blood Netanyahu reportedly told his ministers that the chances of reaching an agreement with Hamas were low. Israeli Prime Minister’s Advisor Dmitry Gendelman posted Netanyahu’s words on his Telegram channel:
“I want to emphasize that we are negotiating, not making recommendations. There are areas where we can be flexible, and there are areas where we cannot, and we insist on that. <...> “Therefore, despite our efforts to return the hostages, we will remain committed to principles critical to Israel’s security.”
Netanyahu added that Hamas “persists in its denial” and has not sent a representative to Doha for talks.
The Israeli Prime Ministry has announced that it insists that Israel retains control of the Philadelphia Corridor on the Gaza Strip’s border with Egypt.
While there are mutual accusations between the parties regarding the disruption of the negotiations in Tel Aviv reached US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
