Janina Ochojska, in an interview with Dominika Wielowieyska in “Gazeta Wyborcza”, once again expressed her disappointment with the approach of the Donald Tusk government to the state’s migration policy. “I am critical of the externalization of migration. The EU gave money to neighboring countries to detain migrants,” said the founder of Polish Humanitarian Action, former KO MEP Janina Ochojska.
Janina Ochojska expressed her dissatisfaction with the migration policy of Donald Tusk’s government, as well as with the way she was treated by the KO leader, in an interview in Gazeta Wyborcza.
Used by Tusk
The activist believed that her potential participation in the European Parliament elections was damaged by the words about the Polish-Belarusian border and her views on the government’s migration policy, which she criticized. Despite this, Ochojska assures that she is still a supporter of Donald Tusk, and even points out that she was present at all the marches organized by the KO leader.
Janina Ochojska makes no secret of her bitterness about the way KO resigned as a candidate in the elections. She admitted that neither Donald Tusk nor any of his entourage had called or communicated with Ochojska in any other way to explain the circumstances and reasons why she had been removed from active politics.
In her opinion, she has been treated disrespectfully, but she also sees positive aspects of this case: now she will have greater freedom of expression and will not have to pay attention to the party line.
According to the former KO MEP, the disagreement between her and the KO leadership on migration stems from the fact that Donald Tusk – in her view – never understood migration processes and as President of the European Council always spoke cautiously on this issue, thus avoiding the fact that it was impossible to discern what his true intentions and thoughts were.
I feel a little cheated by Donald Tusk on this one, because when he spoke about the rule of law he gave the impression that this also applies to actions at the border. And I am sure that many activists understood it that way
– said Ochojska.
Support from the area
She added that she and those around her sincerely believed that the government would abandon the pushback policy in one of its first decisions after the October elections.
Ochojska admitted that there had already been lively discussions among Polish activists interested in the border and migration, with the prevailing tendency to give Tusk a chance. She thereby confirmed that she approved of Tusk’s misleading public opinion so that he could win the elections.
We believed that he said what he said to win the election. (…) To this day I am ashamed that I – like many people – subjected myself to this
– she reported.
Janina Ochojska also denied that KO MEP Andrzej Halicki had asked her to exercise restraint during the election campaign and avoid making controversial statements about the Polish-Belarusian border. However, she told Dominika Wielowieyska that MEP Andrzej Halicki had asked KO members during a meeting to vote against the migration pact, because Donald Tusk wants it. Ochojska voted against it, but not out of obedience to Tusk, but out of – as she claims – deep conviction.
I am critical of the externalisation of migration. The EU gave money to neighbouring countries to tackle the detention of migrants. These reports from Libya are disturbing about the way the funds of the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, are being used. They mainly serve to bring these people to the desert
– he pointed out.
Spilling the Cup of Bitterness
Ochojska stated that at the beginning of Donald Tusk’s term in office she did not comment on migration and the border, but that the death of two people in the forest, which was a direct catalyst for the decision to abandon silence, broke the camel’s back.
The activist added bitterly that her circle remained silent to make it easier for Donald Tusk to come to power in Poland. However, when it turned out that most of the ministers of Tusk’s government, with the leader’s consent, decided to flee their government duties to Brussels, no one in her circle doubted that it was all political games and castling.
There is no particular reason why former minister Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz should be in Brussels. This also applies to other fugitives. And when I see that there is in fact no migration policy, that things are going in the very wrong direction, I naturally join this criticism. I do not like the policy of Tusk and Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz in this area
– she judged.
Interestingly, Ochojska sees no specific differences in the behavior of the Tusk and Morawiecki governments towards migrants and the Polish-Belarusian border. She also stated that as a person with a scientific education, she could put an equal sign here.
This is a prime example of how activists, celebrities and well-known people can easily be influenced by political machinators. Janina Ochojska criticizes Donald Tusk, does not accept the way the prime minister solves the most important issue for her, but at the same time still expresses her support and support for him. How can we call such an attitude other than complete blindness?
