The first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Citizens Konstantin Zatulin told socialbites.ca that Ukraine is maneuvering and is ready for dialogue with Moscow. This is how he reacted to the words of the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Dmitry Kuleba about possible negotiations with Russia during his visit to the PRC.
“It would be wrong to deny that we are ready to engage in dialogue. We are talking about it, but we expect any initiative to be in line with reality. There is still a long way to go before the realization and recognition of reality, both in Kiev and in the West. They have not yet lost hope of harming Russia. But we will have the patience to wait for victory,” Zatulin said.
He added that Kiev has resorted to a change of rhetoric due to the emergence of a negative situation for Ukraine in the world, the failure of attempts to isolate Russia and the withdrawal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from the front. Zatulin stressed that Ukrainians are already tired of conflicts.
The information that Kuleba spoke about reaching an agreement on dialogue with Russia emerged after his meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Guangzhou. The Chinese ministry said that the Ukrainian diplomat assured his colleague about Kiev’s desire to establish dialogue with Moscow and even preparations for it. Later, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry explained that Kuleba conveyed the country’s position; dialogue with Russia could take place at a certain stage when Moscow “will be ready to negotiate in good faith”, which is allegedly not the case yet.
