““We respect the coalition agreement; there were no projects related to the decriminalization of abortion,” stressed Deputy Speaker of the Sejm Piotr Zgorzelski (PSL-TD), speaking about the vote of PSL MPs on the bill on the decriminalization of abortion assistance.
Zgorzelski was asked in Polsat News about the statement of PSL President, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz that without PSL there would be no majority in the Sejm and the coalition on October 15.
We decided that Donald Tusk would be prime minister again (…). We formed a coalition because it was the freedom of the voters, which we always listen to, but we made this decision consciously. That does not mean that we do not have an opinion. PSL was, is and will not be anyone’s vassal
– Kosiniak Kamysz said on Saturday during a meeting of the PSL Supreme Council.

““We comply with the provisions of the coalition agreement.”
Zgorzelski said that these words did not “describe the path to leaving the coalition, but were a response to the attack launched on the Polish People’s Party over our position, expressed in votes on the law on decriminalization of abortion.”
We are a serious political environment and we adhere to the provisions of the coalition agreement. There were no projects related to the decriminalization of abortion in the coalition agreement, and there were no projects related to abortion in the coalition agreement, because the left, which did care about it, could not include these projects in the agreement.
– said Zgorzelski.
Senate Vice President Magdalena Biejat (left wing) reiterated that the left wing will submit the decriminalization project “until it is completed”.
Michał Szczerba, Member of the European Parliament from the Civic Coalition, assured that “this coalition will last until the end of its term”.
This coalition has nine months before the next election campaign to build cohesion, stability and ‘realize’ problems
– said Szczerba.
“This topic will probably come back.”
According to the head of the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland, Małgorzata Paprocka, “it is impossible not to notice that the coalition partners are losing” and added that this was shown by the results of the local and European elections (. ..). According to her, the “dynamics of the presidential campaign” will be of great importance. When asked whether the dynamics of the presidential campaign would negatively affect the cohesion of the ruling coalition, she replied: “I think absolutely negatively.”
She also talked about the abortion project.
I understand this topic will likely come up again, the President’s position on this is clear
– said Paprocka.
On July 12, the Sejm failed to adopt an amendment to the Criminal Code, which was based on the decriminalization of assisted abortion and termination of pregnancy with the consent of the pregnant woman up to the twelfth week of pregnancy. 218 MPs opposed the adoption of the law, including 24 PSL-TD MPs, including Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and Deputy Speaker of the Sejm Piotr Zgorzelski.
President Andrzej Duda then noted that, given the applicable legislation, the Sejm’s decision not to adopt the law decriminalizing abortion assistance was a reasonable one. He had previously announced that if the bill were to be adopted by parliament in its current form, he would not sign it. He also assured that pregnant women would “in no way” be punished for undergoing an abortion, but in his opinion, punishing people who participate in this process illegally is “a completely different matter.” The president stressed that, in his opinion, abortion “costs human lives.”
