“The struggle for our freedom continues in Ukraine; we continue to take action to improve the security of our homeland – in military terms, but also in terms of the alliances we create,” said the party’s president and Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Ministry of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak Kamysz at the PSL Supreme Council.
The fundamental value that I stand for in the PSL is freedom – freedom of our views, freedom of our votes on matters that determine the most sensitive issues that concern us, and economic freedom, which has always been the source of the people’s movement.
– said Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at the meeting of the Supreme Council of the Polish People’s Party.
He stressed that the struggle for freedom continues today.
This struggle for our freedom continues in Ukraine (…) in attempts to improve the security of our homeland – in military terms, but also in terms of the alliances that we are creating, whether it is the European Union or NATO. This struggle for freedom continues in every dimension in which we operate. This is the main reason why we are in politics
– said the president of PSL.
“PSL will not be anyone’s vassal”
He added that the past few weeks have clearly shown “how much we need a party for which freedom is a fundamental task.” He stressed that without PSL there would be no majority in the Sejm and the coalition on October 15.
We decided that Donald Tusk would be prime minister again. We formed a coalition because it was the freedom of the voters, which we always listen to, but we made this decision consciously. That does not mean that we do not have an opinion. PSL was, is and will not be anyone’s vassal
– said Kosiniak Kamysz.
Draft law on patriotic education
As Kosiniak-Kamysz said, “values such as tradition, national identity and culture, as well as patriotism, must be passed on to the young generation.”
The school should not only teach, but also educate together with parents and the local government community. That is why we will present the Patriotic Education Act in the coming days
– he announced.
He pointed out that it had to be “a set of solutions to prevent any revolution – be it left-wing or right-wing”, “because both are harmful to Poland”.
What’s in the middle is best for her
– he said.
It cannot be that with every change of government there will be a change in the canon or the reading list. It cannot be that with the change of government we will change the heroes that our children learn at school. (…) There must be a core that is unchangeable. There is a place in Poland for our heroes – for Witos and Piłsudski, for Dmowski and Daszyński, Paderewski and Korfanty
– said Kosiniak-Kamysz, who also drew attention to the key figures of the changes of the 1980s and 1990s.
There is room for both Jacek Kuroń and Kornel Morawiecki
– he argued.
“This should happen in every school.”
As he added: “There is room, you just need to make an appointment for Poland.”
Not for a week, a year or a month, but for Poland you have to plan for years and generations
– said the politician.
The Law on Patriotic Education will be a constitution for Polish children and Polish schools for years and generations
– added.
Kosiniak-Kamysz added that the project also includes facilities that will allow children from large cities, for example, to attend green schools on agrotourism farms to learn more about the Polish countryside.
So that they can see what the Polish countryside looks like, what our tradition is, what we live on, where food comes from – these are the fundamental truths that should be in every school
– he said.
Lowering health insurance premiums
Kosiniak-Kamysz was also asked by journalists about the party’s priorities for the coming period. In response, the politician drew attention to the proposal to reduce health insurance premiums for entrepreneurs, which – as he stressed – is PSL’s priority and one of the key points of its program.
Kosiniak-Kamysz said that the money to implement this solution could be found in the “best organization of public finances”. He pointed out that his political environment is currently waiting for the proposals of the Ministry of Finance in this regard.
The PSL president judged that the head of the Ministry of Finance, Andrzej Domański, had a similar view on this issue as that of the People’s Party. The position of the entire Civic Coalition is also similar – as Kosiniak-Kamysz said.
We will definitely make it happen
– he argued.
“‘PSL and TD in coalition or not’
Speaking before the PSL Supreme Council on Saturday, the party chairman also said that the issue of health insurance premiums “should be either PSL and Third Way in the coalition or not.”
The politician also referred to the bill “on the status of a close person” that was presented on Friday. This law is intended as a response from PSL to the project for the introduction of the partnership, which is currently under discussion at the government forum.
Kosiniak-Kamysz pointed out that PSL’s proposed regulations would include, among other things, the ability to share medical records with family members, and would also address issues related to inheritance.
This is the only bill in this area that has a chance of being passed by Parliament and accepted by the President
– he judged.
PSL is very pragmatic: you can promise a lot, but with a president who does not accept much less radical solutions, such as the morning-after pill, you cannot count on him to accept far-reaching solutions on abortion or civil partnerships.
– said Kosiniak-Kamysz.
He recalled that when it comes to the rules on abortion, his party’s position remains unchanged: PSL calls for a return to the situation before the Constitutional Court’s ruling in 2020 and calls for a referendum on the possible liberalisation of the regulations.
