“It was announced back in February that immunity would be lifted, and if I am not a Member of the European Parliament, I will simply receive these charges,” Ryszard Czarnecki told Telewizja wPoland.
The former MEP referred to the information about the charges against him, which had been decided by the Zamość Public Prosecutor’s Office.
After twenty years, I am no longer a Member of the European Parliament and the Public Prosecutor’s Office has publicly announced, because it had not yet reached me, that I would be charged, even though the issue of my settlements with the European Parliament had been clarified more than twenty months ago. All this money has been returned. The European Parliament, as my employer, has had no claims against me for almost two years. But as you can see, the position of the European Parliament did not convince the prosecutor at all
– he said.
I am treating it, simply put, as a political issue. Especially since everything was explained and dealt with in the European Parliament. I was not even questioned by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office. Already in February it was announced that immunity would be lifted, and if I am not a Member of the European Parliament, I will simply face these charges.
– added.
Romanowski’s situation
Czarnecki also referred to the case of MP Romanowski.
I am in good company. But, less jokingly, I have the impression that if someone does not have much to show in the economic field, in international politics or in de facto EU policy, he or she plays the games as he is. What is happening in the case of Mr Romanowski is an international scandal. (…) Our reputation in the international arena suffers greatly
– he said.
