Leszek Balcerowicz decided to express his disinclination to 800+ and other social programs again. This time the argument against aid to Poland was… defense spending.
On neo-TVP Info, the economist and former Minister of Finance shared his recipe for how to avoid a budget crisis while maintaining military spending.
Military spending, in my opinion, is rightly the highest in Europe in Poland because of the geopolitical situation, but it amounts to 4 percent of GDP. Social spending amounts to over 20 percent. So if we want to avoid a creeping budget crisis and at the same time maintain what is necessary, namely higher military spending, we need to look for savings in these big items, namely social spending.
– said Balcerowicz.
“We retained many state properties…’
Balcerowicz cannot only complain about the fact that Donald Tusk is leaving social programs in place, but he is also concerned about the lack of revolution in the economy:
The least positive changes have of course taken place (ed.) in the economy, because what has to be taken into account is that people generally do not like politics, but probably especially do not like politics in the economy. And how do we measure this share? The share of state ownership, because the ultimate superiors of state enterprises are politicians. And that is why socialism, where everything was state owned, collapsed and we kept a lot of state ownership, which was expanded during the reign of Donald Tusk’s predecessors, and since then there has been no announcement that anything will be done with it. expanded state ownership, i.e. politically subordinate to him.
As Balcerowicz says, this is a mistake:
I consider it politically wrong, because the majority of PO voters are not in favor of socialism or state ownership. And from an economic point of view it is not good.
““Depoliticization” probably sounds better than “privatization.”
Balcerowicz praises the changes in public media and the legal system, despite the strong solutions that have been introduced.
