Four Injured in Axe Attack at Formentera Ferry Terminal in Ibiza

Four people were injured, one of them critically, as a man wielding an axe carried out an assault late last night at the Foresh maritime terminal in the Ibiza port area, near Formentera. Initial reports from emergency services had placed the incident at Botafoc, though subsequent details clarified that the disturbance occurred at the ferry terminal serving Eivissa and Formentera. According to the information released by the emergency medical system, the incident was reported at 23:14 hours on Saturday. A male assailant, whose age and nationality have not been made public, attacked four individuals with an axe, among them the captain of a vessel. The emergency coordination center notes that both the aggressor and the wounded were in proximity to the vessel at the time the incident unfolded. Passengers and crew linked to the ferry service between Ibiza Town and Formentera appear to have witnessed a sudden, violent burst of aggression inside one of the ferries operating on that route.

Paramedics dispatched to the scene included a unit with Advanced Life Support and another with Basic Life Support, both mobilized to attend to the four injured passengers. Of the four, one person, a 65-year-old man, sustained a severe head injury described as an eight-centimeter laceration stretching from the occipital region down to the left ear. After receiving initial stabilization at the scene, the patient was promptly transported to Nuestra Señora del Rosario Polyclinic for further evaluation and care. The team at the scene provided continuous monitoring and rapid assessment to address potential complications such as bleeding, brain injury risk, and airway security, ensuring the patient remained stable during transport to a higher level of care.

The remaining three victims sustained injuries that were less severe, and they were taken to Can Misses Hospital for comprehensive medical assessment and treatment. Medical teams coordinated closely with port authorities and ferry operators to ensure swift transfer while maintaining safety protocols for both patients and responders. The incident prompted a coordinated response from local emergency services, including scene security, triage of the injured, and rapid communication with medical facilities to prepare for the arrival of the four patients and to allocate beds and specialists as needed.
