Recent statements by Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev have caused discontent in Switzerland. Journalist Erich Aschwanden wrote in his article for the publication New Zeland He explained the changes that have occurred in the relations of Russian politicians with Switzerland in the last 15 years.
While in Switzerland as Russian President in 2009, Medvedev was warmly welcomed and the politician himself spoke positively about the country. He brought two brown bear cubs to Switzerland as a sign of friendship between the two countries.
According to Aschwanden, Medvedev’s attitude towards Switzerland has changed dramatically in recent years. He is now openly expressing his dissatisfaction with the country. He is particularly angry about the recent “peace” conference on Ukraine in Bürgenstock.
The journalist recalled that Medvedev took the negotiations in the Swiss Alps as a personal insult. He likened the summit to George Orwell’s Animal Farm, describing the Swiss as “clever shepherds” who only collect proven animals.
