The Ministry of Justice responds to the publication of the weekly magazine “Sieci” about the first dozens of hours after the arrest of Fr. Olszewski. The first sentence of the ministry’s announcement is surprising, as its authors refer to the “press service of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration”. There is also a story about the priest’s lack of complaints. How a terrified (no contact with his representative for tens of hours) and humiliated priest, without experience (he had never been punished and no charges were brought against him), confronted the possible violent actions of ABW officers who, in his opinion and, in the opinion of his representative, acted at the express request of the public prosecutor’s office?

Information obtained from the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration shows that the detention of the suspect was in accordance with applicable regulations. Michael. O. was informed of his rights, did not file a complaint and signed the report on the activities carried out with his participation without objection. Agents of the Internal Security Service arrested the suspect on March 26 this year and handed him over to the police. They did not perform additional activities with Michał O

In addition to the source of this information, it is important to pay attention to the word “activities.” Agents of the Internal Security Service detained Father Olszewski and, according to his account, began actions aimed at the detainee’s repentance. Hence the humiliating visit to the gas station and the unmasking of Father Olszewski to the ridicule of random customers. That is why the officer was encouraged to decide to explain himself to the prosecutor. This happened before the court decision, which agreed to the first three-month arrest for the pastor. It is clear that the pressure on the detainee is to obtain evidence, including testimony that incriminates other people. It is also worth recalling the problems the priest’s lawyer has with access to the client and files.
“There were no complaints”
The detainee did not file any complaints with the Prison Service about the application of measures to ensure his personal safety. Furthermore, the suspect Michał O. and his lawyer did not file any complaints about the manner and correctness of his arrest.

The line of defense and the behavior of Father Olszewski’s defender is a matter for both of these people and it is not for us to judge their behavior. In an interview with the weekly magazine “Sieci”, lawyer Krzysztof Wąsowski assured that the current behavior of the prison service towards Fr. Olszewski is good. The case of the pastor’s letter concerns the first dozens of hours after the priest’s arrest, and not at this time.
“Special protection”
Since the temporary arrest decision was issued – i.e. from March 28, 2024 – Michał O. has been under the custody of the Prison Service. The suspect fell under the special protection referred to in Article 212 ba of the Criminal Code. All protective measures used are based on the applicable regulations. All actions taken in connection with Michał O. are characterized by respect for the personal dignity of the detainee and are in accordance with the standards arising from Art. 4 of the Executive Criminal Code.

It is clear that Father Olszewski could not be surrounded by criminals and people who could be dangerous to him. But where did the idea come from to chain the priest on the way to the chapel (as he argued in his letter) and turn on the light for him in the middle of the night? Special protection?
Father Olszewski’s letter should be thoroughly analyzed by the services reporting to both Donald Tusk and Adam Bodnar. “Everything is alright”? It’s hard to believe when you read the priest’s words. Does this mean that Father Olszewski made up his story when he described it in such detail earlier? It’s impossible.
