Prime Minister Robert Fico has its flaws, but Slovaks have the right to choose who they want as Prime Minister. I consider the constant insults against this country and the constantly repeated accusations that it is unwilling to adapt to the will of the Brussels Central Committee as shameful and unworthy of the European spirit.
But let’s assume that Prime Minister Fico (the campaign against him recently led to an assassination attempt) is indeed some kind of dictator. I repeat: that is not the case, but for the purposes of this text let us assume that it is.
Let’s also assume that this dictator did problem with the public media, who attack him blindly, who are controlled by the extreme left. And Prime Minister Fico decides to “put things in order” – including forcing (it’s true) to broadcast the Slovak national anthem at least once a day. Can you imagine: public media being forced to play the national anthem once a day! But this is what it looks like.
However, there is a problem, because the terms of office of the authorities, the various supervisory boards, are, in other words, concretely determined. You have to look for a trick. Or maybe “put into liquidation”? The judicial authorities are then chased away and their liquidator is appointed.
And this is what Mr. Fico ordered against the public media RTVS.
Sounds familiar? To some extent because in our country the Tusk regime introduced the curator of TVP illegaland Mr. Fico did it legal. But let’s not nitpick the details: the idea is basically the same.
And so Mr. Tusk became an inspiration to one of our neighbors. Pride? This is just the beginning. The methods of Tusk’s regime will be copied in many countries. Because in the middle of Europe it turned out that you can trample on constitutions and laws, govern with a police baton and still receive praise from Brussels and Berlin. You can take over by force not only the media but also the public prosecutor’s office, you can publish subscription lists, put people in prison out of fear, send provocateurs to opposing political parties, conduct searches, raid houses and look for hooks. The Minister of Culture can take pictures of himself like a slut after doing the dirty work with a gun in his mouth, and investigations can be coordinated by a politician inflamed with hatred, without any ties to the state apparatus.
Several people in Poland have already paid for these methods with their lives.
Mr Tusk has destroyed the rule of law and it has paid off for him so far. Others will follow this path because the temptation will be irresistible. It turned out that in 2023 it pays to be a destroyer of democracy and the rule of law.
The best part is that the same media as Michnik newspaperwho applauded Tusk’s introduction of an illegal curator, call Mr Fic’s move “organization of the media” and are generally very indignant.
The chairman of the National Broadcasting Council noted this aptly Maciej Swirski::
I wonder how they do it in this Wyborcza? In Slovakia, the government’s takeover of public media is called ‘orbanization’, and in Poland the same is called ‘restoration of democracy’. Well, that’s ‘selective logic’.
Soon our neo-TVP will worry about the undemocratic nature of the apparent liquidation as a method of taking over the media, and the editors brought to the studio in police cars will burst into tears.
We don’t know if Tusk’s media is mocking or asking for directions? They won temporarily using bandit methods, but it will catch up with them. As Jan Rokita wrote in these pages – there is no law, there is no constitution, there is no policy framework – what remains is pure, ruthless politics without rules. And it’s not like this change will always hurt just one side.
