Last Friday, half a year of Donald Tusk’s rule passed, and on this occasion we not only did not have a press conference at which the Prime Minister would speak about the ‘successes’ of the coalition government, or even a memorial post from the Prime Minister on social media .
Tusk’s only entry to appear on the X platform that day was dedicated to Dariusz Matecki, an MP from sovereign Poland, who climbed to the roof of one of the parliament buildings early in the morning and took a photo with the sun rising on the background. As MP Matecki explained, by taking a photo on the roof of the parliament hotel, he imitated Marshal Szymon Hołownia, who a few weeks earlier not only took photos on the roof of the parliament buildings, but even recorded a video that he posted on his phone. social media. That event was commented with appreciation in the media, the good host visits every nook and cranny of the “parliamentary properties”, now the departure of MP Matecki was considered a scandal by the media, and Marshal Hołownia announced heavy financial penalties.
Tusk’s mention on Platform On the one hand, it is hard evidence that this team is not achieving real success in governing. If they had, they would not fail to celebrate it, not only in the media, but also in the gardens of the Prime Minister’s Office. On the other hand, it shows contempt for the voters of the parties that make up the current coalition, because it is clearly visible that Tusk has completely forgotten the ‘100 details for 100 days of government’ program and now wants all those who voted to this coalition would forget them. Only those under the banner of ‘Together Strong’ or ‘Eight Stars’ can be satisfied, because all Tusk’s team wants to implement now is to settle scores and put PiS politicians in prison, for which Minister Bodnar prepares the prosecutor very intensively. office and the courts.
Vendetta as a fig leaf
Moreover, this responsibility and capture is intended to obscure the increasingly ‘creaking’ reality that is becoming increasingly visible both in the economy and in the situation of public finances. Let us remind you that at the end of April this year, the Central Bureau of Statistics published information about the intentions of companies to make group layoffs at the end of March, which showed that as many as 159 companies and 17,000 employees were involved. These reports are increasing month after month (at the end of February there were 137 companies and approximately 16,000 employees) and everything indicates that this will increase even more in the coming months. There is also information about large layoffs in the public sector, for example in Poczta Polska it will apply to at least 10,000 employees, and PKP Cargo will be affected by the so-called layoff crisis. Nearly 1/3 of all workers will be made redundant, i.e. over 7,000 (if demand for transport services does not increase, these workers will be made redundant).
In turn, at the end of May, articles were published analyzing the implementation of the state budget after four months, which showed that the situation of state finances was much worse compared to the same period last year. Well, information from the Ministry of Finance on the estimated budget implementation in the January-April period shows that the state budget deficit was as much as PLN 40 billion, while in the same period of 2023 it was only PLN 10 billion. It should be emphasized that in 2023, due to the central bank’s tightening monetary policy to combat inflation, we saw a 0.8% decline in GDP in the first and second quarters. and 0.5 percent, and the entire year ended with a symbolic GDP growth of only 0.2 percent. This year should be much better in that regard; Throughout 2024, GDP growth is expected to reach 3.6%, while in the first quarter of this year, GDP growth was as high as 1.9%, according to a quick estimate from the Central Bureau of Statistics. At almost 2 percent GDP growth in the first quarter, in a situation where in the same period last year we saw a decline in GDP of 0.8%, the situation of the state budget should be much better, but it is clearly worse.
This is why Donald Tusk calls for an even more intensive regulation of his predecessors, because in the long history of humanity “every time there was a shortage of bread, more games were ordered.” And Tusk will need more and more of these games, because it will be necessary to cover not only the ‘bleeping’ domestic reality, but also the European one, and the effects of the EU migration pact that was finally adopted in May this year , especially visible on our western border.
