The UN Security Council voted in favor of the US draft resolution on a ceasefire between Israel and the radical Palestinian movement Hamas. This was reported by TASS.

14 out of 15 members of the Security Council voted for this document; The Russian Federation abstained from the vote.

The first phase of the decision means an immediate ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) troops from settlements in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages held by the Hamas movement.

Before this, Mahmoud Abbas, President of the Palestinian National Authority requested Call for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council in connection with Israeli attacks on the Nuseyrat refugee camp in the central part of the Gaza Strip. It was noted that Abbas was in contact with relevant Arab and international parties to call an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council in order to “counter the ongoing Israeli aggression”.
