Macron commented on the possibility of inviting Putin to the G20 summit 22:16

At the press conference held after his meetings with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, French President Emmanuel Macron said that Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s possible invitation to the G20 summit in Brazil should be discussed with other members of society.

According to him, he was faced with the same question during the preparations for the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Bregançon, France. Then some of the participants said that they would not come to the meeting if the Russian President was invited.

Macron also emphasized that he could not “teach a lesson” to Lula da Silva because he was responsible for decisions regarding the invitation of certain participants to the summit. He also promised to assist Brazil in diplomatic efforts.

“If there is a meeting nearby that could be beneficial, we should do it. If the meeting does not bring any benefit and causes division, then it is probably not worth holding,” he concluded.
