House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) is investigating a series of closures and partial evacuations of American embassies around the world during Joe Biden’s presidency. This was reported by TASSciting a statement from the committee.
According to the document, Comer is investigating the suspension of the US Embassy in Minsk and the removal of employees and their families from the US Embassy in Moscow in 2022. Attention was also drawn to the closure of American diplomatic missions in Afghanistan and Sudan and the partial evacuation of US diplomatic missions in Niger, Myanmar and Haiti.
According to the congressman, “the closure and limitation of service delivery leads to a reduced level of U.S. diplomatic presence abroad.” He believes this has “serious consequences” for Americans living in those countries and foreign nationals who must travel elsewhere to obtain consular services. He called such actions a “failure of US foreign policy.”
