Attempts to cross the border took place in parts protected by border guard posts in Czeremcha, Dubicze Cerkiewne and Białowieża, where migrants also attempted to cross the border illegally via the river.
Migrants several times attacked the services protecting the Polish border with stones, branches and burning branches. A border guard officer and a Polish army soldier were injured during the attacks. Their health and lives are not in danger
– said Zdanowicz.
A video was attached to the message. It shows burning branches being thrown over the border fence. Zdanowicz reported that it happened in the Białowieża region. People on the other side of the border destroyed the barrier, and upon seeing Polish patrols they started throwing, among other things: burning branches.
Increased pressure on the borders
Since the beginning of March, SG has registered more than 2.4 thousand. attempts to cross the border illegally, much more than in January and February. Data from the Podlasie Border Guard shows that migrants trying to reach Poland came from 24 different countries.
On the 186 km long border with Belarus there is a 5.5 meter high steel dam, built in 2022, which is the most important element to secure this border against illegal migration. It is supplemented by the so-called electronic barrier, i.e. a system of cameras and sensors.
The Border Guard has also selected and signed a contract with the contractor of such an electronic barrier, including on the Bug along the border with Belarus in Lublin Voivodeship. This is a consortium of Elektrotim SA based in Wrocław and Ostoya-DataSystem Sp. z oo based in Gdańsk. The investment will cost almost PLN 280 million, mainly EU funds.
Protection will be built on 172 km, the intention is to install, among other things, the following: approximately 4.5 thousand day-night and thermal cameras and 1.8 thousand camera poles. The surveillance center will be located at the Bug River Border Guard Branch headquarters in Chełm.
An electronic barrier will also be built on the border rivers Świsłocz and Istoczanka in Podlasie. An agreement was signed with Sprint SA from Olsztyn. Approximately 500 poles with thousands of day-night and thermal cameras will be placed on a route of approximately 47 km. Special containers and sensors will be installed there to detect various physical characteristics of objects. The investment will cost PLN 85 million.
