NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg visited the South Caucasus countries and met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian and Georgian Prime Ministers Nikol Pashinyan and Irakli Kobakhidze. This was reported by RIA News.
According to the agency, Stoltenberg and Aliyev discussed the supply of Azerbaijani gas to the member states of the North Atlantic Alliance, as well as the republic’s provision of humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
During his visit to the Georgian capital Tbilisi, the NATO chief assured Kobakhidze that Georgia is one of the organization’s closest partners. Stoltenberg also expressed his support for the prime minister regarding South Ossetia and Abkhazia, stating that Russia should recognize them as part of Georgia.
Stoltenberg said a shipping blockade was now necessary to discourage Russia. He promised to restore the economic chains formed in Transcaucasia after the “success of Ukraine”.
NATO Secretary General reminded Pashinyan in Yerevan that a peace agreement should be signed with Azerbaijan based on the results of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Commenting on Stoltenberg’s visit, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, suggested that the Alliance’s “maximum task” is to open a second front against the Russian Federation in the South Caucasus and, in general, “to determine the territory is on fire again.”
