He stated that officials plan to fix deficiencies in both the physical and electronic components of the fence.
“The fence is not reliable enough and action needs to be taken to improve its effectiveness,” the deputy minister emphasized. He added that the study will be “wide-ranging” and is already being conducted with the participation of scientific and technical centers to evaluate the proposed solutions.
Currently, Poland’s border with Belarus and Russia is constantly monitored by foot patrols, vehicles on the ground and aircraft, Mroczek said. “Currently, more than 3 thousand border guards are on duty in these regions to protect the state borders,” he said.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Maciej Duszczyk said that the financing for strengthening the fence will come from European Union funds in the amount of approximately 44 million zlotys (about $11 million).
According to him, the work is planned to be completed by the end of June 2025.
