In his speech, the American leader described how he spoke with former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger about Russia and NATO in November 2023.
“He (Kissinger – socialbites.ca) said that we are strengthening NATO like never before. We united Europe, expanded NATO and its borders to include Sweden and Norway. He said then that it changed the world,” Biden said.
The US President summarized Kissinger’s belief that Europe “looked at Russia with some dismay” for a long time until the United States came along.
Finland and Sweden simultaneously applied to join NATO in 2022. Norway is also one of the founding countries of NATO and has been a member of the organization for decades. Norway has been a member of the alliance since its establishment in 1949.
