Guests of the program “Salon Dziennikarski” on Telewizja in Poland discussed the dismissal of more than 50 Polish ambassadors by the government of Donald Tusk. According to the interlocutors, such an action is an omission of the president’s powers and will have an impact on foreign policy.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Wednesday that the head of the ministry, Radosław Sikorski, decided that day to end the missions of more than fifty ambassadors and withdraw several candidacies submitted for approval by the previous management of the ministry. As reported, practical appeal procedures have been initiated. The issue of expelling ambassadors from diplomatic missions was discussed in the program “Salon Dziennikarski”.
I don’t think PiS – if it regains power – will decide on a ‘club and resolution’ rule, because this is how Donald Tusk’s rule should be summarized: ‘club and resolution’.
– said Stanisław Janecki.
As he noted, it is the president who – by law – appoints and dismisses ambassadors. According to the Foreign Service Act, “an ambassador is appointed and dismissed by the President of the Republic of Poland at the request of the Minister responsible for Foreign Affairs, approved by the Prime Minister.”
If there is no presidential act, such a person is not an ambassador and does not cease to be an ambassador. This obviously discredits Poland in these countries, because it is different in international organizations
– said the columnist of the weekly magazine “Sieci”.
He also referred to the fact that from December 13, 2023, the tasks of the Permanent Representation to the EU in Brussels – based on the decision of the Tusk team – will be carried out by Piotr Serafin. Andrzej Sadoś was dismissed from this position.
Mr Serafin is already an EU insider and they tolerate it because he is a friend, an assistant or – and I quote Sikorski: Donald Tusk’s negro during his presidency of the European Council, because Serafin knew the law and Donald Tusk nothing knew.
– said Janecki.
PO’s revenge plan
The editor-in-chief of the website wPolityce.pl also commented on the cancellation of the ambassadors. According to her, this is “another part of the revenge program.”
The revenge program was a political program of the Civic Platform or the Civic Coalition. The revenge extends very widely
– noted Marzena Nykiel.
This is another strong attack on the president. They eliminate anyone who has had any contact with Law and Justice, with the previous government – even in cultural institutions, let alone in political institutions that implement international policies, so this purge of ambassadors is the implementation of the ‘revenge plan’.
– she pointed.
As she added, “the current government pays no attention to the security of Poland.”
What mandate do they (ambassadors) have today and what mandate will the next ones have? And at the same time, Mr. Sikorski comes out and says that this is “depoliticization” and that it is actually PiS’s fault
– she said.
These are people who do not think about the interests of the state
– she assessed.
Visit of the President and Prime Minister in Washington
The guests of the “Salon Journalists” also discussed the visit of President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Donald Tusk to the USA.
I think President Biden simply wanted Tusk, in the presence of someone they consider a reliable representative of Poland – the Constitution states that the President is externally the highest representative of the Republic of Poland – for Tusk to commit to a few stuff
– said Janecki.
He added that the purpose of the visit was for Tusk “to confirm everything, as a credible witness of Poland’s obligations, when it comes to nuclear energy and arms contacts.”
Tusk had to make himself credible. Donald Tusk and Radosław Sikorski, currently the makers of foreign policy, have long been ‘persona non grata’ for the United States at government level.
– noted the publicist.
Donald Tusk spent his entire second term as President of the European Council trying to drive the United States out of Europe. He did everything he could to prevent the United States from being the guarantor of European security
– added.
According to Janecki, in the US, “the prime minister was given the opportunity to honorably withdraw from it and the president was there to witness it.”
It is very good that both the Prime Minister and the President have gone. Not only because it is such a strong manifestation of unity in terms of security and the fact that we differ on many points, but here we stand like a wall
– assessed Nykiel.
Donald Tusk finally had the opportunity – first of all – to face the facts regarding NATO, regarding the position of the member states in this alliance, and some specific facts regarding Ukraine, but also regarding to the president’s position in the United States and in the international arena, because until now it was all about the president he laughed and tried to mock
– she pointed.
A lesson for Tusk in the US
According to the editor-in-chief of Gazeta Gdańska, behind the visit there was a message about the internal situation in Poland.
Disharmony in Poland, a frontline country, is certainly not well taken by the NATO leadership, and it would probably be easier to talk to three people about the subject instead of two.
– said Marek Formela.
He said the White House meeting was also “a lesson in civic and political education for Donald Tusk.”
He acted a bit like a courtier who learned a lesson in patriotic education, because the reduction in pressure from the Polish state is not needed by anyone in Europe at the moment.
– added.
Shortly after the trip to the US, talks in the Weimar Triangle format were held at the Chancellery Office in Berlin on Friday, with the participation of Prime Minister Donald Tusk, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron. The head of the Polish government announced the sudden, unplanned Weimar Triangle summit on Tuesday after meeting President Biden.
This is a situation for the Poles – I think it is uncomfortable – because Tusk was called for interrogation, because I would still understand that it was Tusk who invited
– said Formela.
However, what is mentioned is not the Prime Minister, but the Prime Minister’s dummy
– he noted.
Formela also commented on Tusk’s position on Poland seeking compensation from Germany for war losses.
That the Prime Minister of the Polish government in Berlin capitulates to the Chancellor of Germany on reparations is unprecedented; excludes political rights in a normal country if one acts at the expense of the Polish community, contrary to historical experience
– said the editor-in-chief of “Gazeta Gdańska”.
