Europe’s two largest countries – France and Germany – are aiming for a leading role on the continent. The instrument for implementing their superpower policies and global ambitions is the European Union, which dreams of a common foreign and security policy and a common armed force. However, these countries have lost the ability to select leaders, people with authority who, because they rule such rich and developed countries, could be a model or inspiration for other leaders and thus lead Europe. In the next round, Germany and France are led by grotesque figures who seem to be entangled in their own past, who not only have no authority, but also become a laughing stock. This concerns President Emmanuel Macron and Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Unfortunately, after Donald Tusk’s team came to power, Poland lost the ability to inspire Europe, so the continent is led by a blind and lame president and chancellor. Sometimes it seems like they are all blind and lame at the same time. They are both very different – which even reflects them, and in this way they complement each other in their incompetence and helplessness. In two texts we will present the latest achievements of these figures in ensuring the security of Europe, i.e. in what should be the most lasting bond and the strongest argument for the unity and solidarity of Europe in times of war.
In the first text we will deal with the Jovian leader of France, its Sun King Macron, and in the second we will deal with Chancellor Scholz, who is described even in Germany as a fool from the Brothers Grimm fairy tale “Happy Johnny”. .
Emmanuel Macron’s presidency is no longer marked by a series of failures, but by disasters. Even his predecessor Francois Hollande, under whom he apprenticed as a minister of the Socialist government, despite his inertia and record unpopularity, did not weaken France as much as the current tenant of the Elysée Palace. We will not concern ourselves with internal problems, but will focus on actions on the international stage, especially the idea of sending NATO troops to Ukraine.
All of Macron’s global activities have a strange, if sometimes unintended, connection to Russia. It is a point of reference as if it were fate or as if the French president suffered from some Putin syndrome or complex. Let psychologists and psychiatrists wonder whether the fascination with the bloody tyrant was influenced by the fact that Macron, as a 15-year-old student, was seduced by his teacher, who was 24 years older than him. all his weaknesses. (Those interested in this can find the opinion of Professor Adriano Segatori on the Internet).
The agreements between Ukraine and Russia, or the Minsk agreements under the Netherlands or in 2019 in Paris, under the patronage of Macron and Merkel, ended in disaster.
Macron allowed France to be completely expelled from sub-Saharan Africa, depriving the country of what remains of civilization and political influence in its former colonies. He allowed France to be replaced by gangs of Russian mercenaries from the Wagner group, acting on behalf of the Kremlin. Then, just before and after the outbreak of war in Ukraine, Macron called Putin at night. Or maybe he also reached out from under the windows, knocked on the window, sent flowers and notes, we don’t know, but the tyrant did not miss the opportunity to humiliate him.
As if to make up for all his previous defeats, a braver and more combative Macron publicly announced after the meeting in Paris in late February of the leaders of twenty European countries that the West should send its troops to Ukraine.
The idea was astonishing, sometimes it caused laughter and sometimes anger, as in Germany, which wants to be seen as a champion of helping Ukraine, so such initiatives show that Kiev may have a better ally than Berlin. The leaders of many countries unanimously stated that there was no question of sending troops, and only the head of the Dutch armed forces, General Onno Eichelsheim, said that such a possibility could not be ruled out in the future.
Despite widespread criticism, Macron repeats his proposals, and French politicians rush to justify him and explain what the French president really means. Regardless of what the future brings, what may be good and one day effective or inevitable, Macron’s presentation of the proposal now, in such circumstances, without consulting other countries, shows that it is a fanfaronade, just an attempt to accommodate to the needs of the population. domestic or European policy, or also a way to inflate the ego. An excited Macron talks about courage:
We are undoubtedly approaching a moment in our Europe when it is not appropriate to be cowardly
– he said in Prague, praising his idea to send soldiers to Ukraine. The President of France is prepared to sacrifice them heroically.
Look, world, look, earthlings, this is Putin’s worthy opponent. When humanity sees Macron’s greatness and courage, the French themselves will understand what a great leader they have. The easier it will be for them to overcome the great social crisis in which France is immersed and the continuing impoverishment. A bit like in Russia: it doesn’t matter that we don’t have sewage water in our house and if necessary we go to the fence along the road, but we have a great leader, Putin. Why should the French discuss the Islamization of the country, the invasion of immigrants, the burning of suburbs, zones where the state does not work, the major problems of agriculture, when they can admire their hero – His Pomposity Emmanuel Macron.
This sense of grandeur, Macron’s delusions of grandeur, is one of the factors determining French policy. Meanwhile, this grandeur and grotesque majesty causes laughter and pity all over the world (not on TVN and Wyborcza). When assessing Macron’s policies, it is impossible to escape psychoanalysis. His character cannot be separated from his policies, and this is the president’s great weakness.
All these gestures, poses and words full of pathos have nothing to do with reality. Here the nations of the world are called to a crusade against Russia by someone who has been chased out of Africa by Russian bands of mercenaries. Someone who cannot even force French companies not to cooperate with the Kremlin regime. The Russian unit of the French Bonduelle even sent Christmas parcels to the front for Muscovites. French aid to troubled Ukraine is estimated at a paltry 635 million euros. And such a person wants to embark on a crusade.
To make it even funnier and more grotesque, at the same meeting where he called on the West to send troops to Ukraine, Macron announced that Europe had run out of bullet powder and there was no way to produce it. It concerns nitrocellulose, which requires a special type of cotton. And once, deliveries were stopped completely by accident by China. So, to paraphrase the classic: There is no gunpowder for bullets, and there will be no such thing. There is a gap between what Macron says and what he stands for. His words and actions completely rob him of his seriousness and credibility.
Macron has a reputation as one of the most superficial, least credible, inconsiderate (if not downright stupid) statesmen on the world stage. Apart from political tactics for the needs of France, his elegant appearance and the ‘Jupiter’ atmosphere around him, there is nothing important.
– writes Gabriel Elefteriu, lecturer at the Center for Political Science of Cambidge University and deputy head of the Geostrategy Council at this university.
Under the current circumstances, Macron’s proposal is not only ridiculous and grotesque, but also harmful and dangerous, and even damages NATO’s cohesion, exposing the alliance and European countries to a major, unnecessary trial by fire and water.
For two years, the Kremlin’s propaganda has told Muscovites and the world that the conflict in Ukraine is the West’s proxy war against Moscow, and that it is a cover, a prelude to a long-term plan to dismantle Russia. Macron therefore provided the Putin regime with arguments to support his lies. The attack on Ukraine was only a preemptive blow.
And the second, much more serious aspect, hidden in the structure of this Western expedition to Ukraine. Sending troops would follow from Kiev’s agreements with individual countries, which Macron says is enough to prove that this is not a NATO project. However, it is difficult to imagine that individual countries would take action without consultation and consent from the Alliance.
Macron also does not fully understand who he is addressing with what arguments. His full legalism, references to international law and what not, and his assurances that the appearance of Western troops in Ukraine would not be a NATO venture can be good in dealing with figures like him.
It shows incredible naivety, even infantilism, to think that Putin will engage in legalistic hair-splitting and assume that independent action by individual NATO countries does not mean action by the entire alliance. He will accept it or not, as it suits him.
But once these forces are in Ukraine, no matter what role they play – the Rainbow Brigades can even hold LGBT workshops there, it will decide whether to attack them or not. Will a rocket accidentally fall there, will the drone get lost or not? Should I check if they have air protection or not? Will he commit a provocation like the Germans in Gliwice and plant the bodies of several convicts dressed in Russian uniforms?.
Or perhaps it will strike head-on and test NATO and European leaders. They will wonder whether the attack in Ukraine on units of an Allied country that went there on an independent expedition triggers Article 5 of the Treaty – NATO’s collective defense clause – or not. Perhaps it will be possible to argue with European leaders even more, because some will say that it is an initiative, while others will say that the conflict cannot escalate.
And if the Alliance does nothing and ends up with threats as usual, how will Putin respond? Does anyone know what could be shot in the head? Scenarios can be created endlessly. Macron invites him to play and leaves the field completely open to play. It would depend solely on Putin whether and to what extent he would take advantage of the invitation.
Ralph Schoellhammer, professor at Vienna’s Webster University, assesses Macron’s France even more brutally than Elefteriu, who summarizes the idea of sending troops to Ukraine and the president’s diplomatic efforts in ‘Brussels Signal’ as follows:
France is a circus run by clowns, from Macron to its Prime Minister Gabriel Attal (whose only qualifications appear to be young and gay) and Foreign Minister Stéphane Sejourné (whose only qualifications are also young and mentioned as Attal’s ex-husband). It is sad that Talleyrand’s nation has been transformed into Macron’s nation.
