“I do not agree or support police brutality against protesters. Brutality, throwing people to the ground, overwhelming people as I saw it, people not resisting, the misuse of tear gas – this is a bad testimony for the police,” Deputy Agriculture Minister Michał Kołodziejczak said on Radio ZET. referring to the behavior of the police during the farmers’ protest in Warsaw. He announced that he would demand an explanation from Minister Kierwiński about this.
The police behaved professionally during the farmers’ protest: gas, blocks, batons?
– asked Bogdan Rymanowski, the interviewer.
In my opinion no
– replied Kołodziejczak.
I do not agree or support police brutality against protesters. The brutality, throwing people to the ground, the overwhelming as I saw it, people not resisting, the abuse of tear gas – this is a bad testimony for the police
– he said.
I will submit an official document to Minister Kierwiński to find out as many details as possible. I will demand explanations from the police and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration as to why such a situation occurred
– he announced.
Kołodziejczak offers help to imprisoned farmers
Kołodziejczak also announced that he would support farmers detained by police.
Every farmer who has been arrested can and may count on this from now on
– he said.
The Deputy Minister of Agriculture replied whether he would ask Minister Bodnar to be lenient towards the arrested farmers.
Yes. Polish agriculture will not be able to cope with the current situation if it is not resolved
– replied Kołodziejczak.
The State Secretary for Agriculture noted that, according to the information at his disposal, major changes will take place in the Green Deal.
I think the changes will be big. Commissioner Wojciechowski was a little ahead, he was the first to present good information, but it is known that everyone wants to present good information. (…) According to the information I receive, major concessions will be made, facilities when it comes to the Green Deal and fines excluded
– he said.
As you can see, there appears to be no agreement even within Donald Tusk’s government as to whether the police acted appropriately by making extensive use of direct coercive measures during the farmers’ protest.
