The head of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration, Marcin Kierwiński, said in the Sejm that farmers came to Warsaw to protest peacefully. He noted that among the demonstrators there were provocateurs who attacked the police and in this situation the police had to respond.
A farmers’ demonstration took place in Warsaw on Wednesday, attended by representatives of Solidarity and foresters, among others. There was a clash between police and demonstrators near the Sejm. According to the Warsaw Police Station, several police officers were injured. A dozen people were arrested.
Opposition MPs commented on the issue in the Sejm on Wednesday. According to MP Michał Wójcik (PiS), a similar situation has not occurred in Poland for several decades.
Farmers came and no one ever raised a hand against the farmers. And you, as a government, have raised it. Why did you order the attack on farmers?
– He asked.
According to Confederation co-chairman Sławomir Mentzen, the police attacked the farmers “unprovoked”.
Responding to the accusations, Marcin Kierwiński recalled that during their rule, PiS MPs often repeated the slogan: “A wall behind the Polish uniform.”
You liked this saying, Mr. President Kaczyński, Mr. Minister Błaszczak
– he noted.
“Gang of Provocateurs”
According to the head of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration, it was not farmers but a “gang of provocateurs” who threw paving stones at Polish police officers.
And you attack the Polish police. Where is your decency?
– He asked.
He emphasized that the police have been ensuring the safety of protesting farmers for several days.
They do this in a professional and calm manner (…). Are you really not ashamed of attacking police officers who are throwing paving stones at them? Have you not seen these photos? Shame on you for this. It was your irresponsible rhetoric that led to these acts of violence
– he said.
According to Kierwiński, farmers came to Warsaw to protest peacefully.
Unfortunately, there were also bandits who attacked the Polish police. In such a situation, the Polish police will respond and in such a situation, the Polish police will always defend Polish citizens, no matter how much you shout.
– he made a reservation.

Hołownia: “Shameful events”
Marshal of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia ruled on Wednesday that shameful events had taken place during the protests in front of the Sejm. I don’t believe it was done by farmers who actually came here to protest, but the group of protesting farmers was accompanied by groups of provocateurs, masked people – he pointed out.
Hołownia said that “the police officers who defended our safety today deserve our support.”
And the hooligans, and not the protesting farmers, but ordinary hooligans who threw paving stones and behaved scandalously today, must be held accountable.
– he pointed out.
A farmers’ protest took place in the capital on Wednesday, in which, among others, representatives of “Solidarity” and forest rangers took part. The protest started before noon in front of the Prime Minister’s office, after which demonstrators marched in front of the Sejm buildings. During the protest there were clashes between demonstrators and police. Paving stones were thrown at the police and the services responded with tear gas.
In the afternoon, during the Sejm session, Confederation MP Grzegorz Braun tabled a motion to order a break, convene a seniors’ convention and supplement the agenda with full information from the Minister of the Interior and Administration, Marcin Kierwiński, regarding – as he said – “the police provocation that took place here, in Warsaw, on Wiejska Street and adjacent streets in the last few hours.
He submitted that one of the MPs had a recording of stones being thrown at the protesting farmers from the direction of the police line.
Mr MP (Confederation, Sławomir) Mentzen was gassed right in the face
– he said.
He said there is no point in waiting “for worse things to happen.” He said the situation “requires not only urgent explanation from the minister provocateur, but also urgent action” from the chairman of the Sejm.
According to Braun, Southern MPs who tried to prevent the situation from escalating fell victim to the actions of police officers.
Hołownia, responding to the MP, addressed the Confederation MPs and emphasized that if they have any recordings or other materials of these events, he would like to ask them to forward them to the competent authorities.
However, I have also observed these incidents in the Marshal’s control center. I must say that absolutely shameful events took place during this protest. I don’t believe it was done by farmers who actually came here to protest, but the group of protesting farmers was clearly accompanied by a group of provocateurs, masked people who physically violated the bodily integrity of the officers.
– he said.
Stones were thrown, fireworks were thrown, the police repeatedly asked people to leave the place (they said) that the meeting was illegal, and asked the parliamentarians and senators to leave the place. Several police officers were injured, several dozen people were arrested and if we take the slogan “a wall behind the Polish uniform” seriously, we must always take this slogan seriously.
– added.
According to Hołownia, “the police officers who defended our safety today deserve our support.”
And the hooligans, and not the protesting farmers, but ordinary hooligans who threw paving stones and behaved scandalously today, must be held accountable.
– noted the President of the Sejm.
He said he and Sejm Deputy Chairman Piotr Zgorzelski were waiting for the opportunity to meet the protesters.
But because of what happened, I heard from the organizers that they could not select a delegation to meet us
– said Hołownia.
Responding to voices from the audience that this was not true, he added: “Marshal Zgorzelski was waiting all the time, and as soon as I came back from the swearing-in ceremony of the members of the National Electoral Commission, I asked where the delegation was. .”
It happened the way it happened. Protests are one thing, hooliganism is something completely different
– added.
