Ilona Jasyk, farmer and vice-president of OPZZ Farmers and Agricultural Organizations, was not allowed to talk to farmer representatives with Donald Tusk. “I received information that Deputy Minister Kołodziejczak said that I would not be allowed to attend the meeting, even though I was a delegate to Tuesday’s meeting at Marshal Hołownia and the Prime Minister’s Chancellery,” Ilona Jasyk said in an interview with wPolityce. pl.
Was there any justification for the decision not to admit Ilona Jasyk to the meeting with the Prime Minister, or was she simply told not to come and was that the case?
They told me I wasn’t going in and that was it. Organizers of Tuesday’s protest provided the same list of people for Thursday’s meeting with the prime minister as on Tuesday. Because it was a representative group and also knew what topics were discussed on Tuesday, I was a representative of the Opole Voivodeship at this meeting. In the end, Mr Kołodziejczak chose Mr Arkadiusz Kożuszko, an activist from Agrounia, instead of me.
– say Ilona Jasik.
When asked if she can guess why it was decided not to allow her to meet the Prime Minister, she answers:
I don’t know how to take this. Mainly because I had attended previous meetings and there was no problem at the time. No one objected at the time and the list of participants in the meetings was also verified. I know that this Thursday’s list was drawn up entirely by Mr Kołodziejczak. Furthermore, despite drawing up a list of 30 people, 10-15 additional people were admitted.
Could the fact that Ilona Jasyk has appeared at conferences in the past with Janusz Kowalski, with whom Kołodziejczak is in conflict, influence Michał Kołodziejczak’s decision?
To be honest, I talk to every politician, every minister, I know very well that Mr Kołodziejczak does not like each other with Mr Kowalski, but I believe that we are adults and we are fighting for the well-being of Polish agriculture. Are these the things we should be focusing on? Frankly, that would be childish
– notes Jasyk, assessing the possible motive of Kołodziejczak’s actions.
“Some specific government actions should have been introduced a long time ago.”
Rolniczka emphasizes that she expects specific actions from Donald Tusk, because there are no specifics for the time being – even after Thursday’s meeting.
I hope that concrete actions will be taken. The farmers’ protests across Europe have been going on for two months now, the protests in Germany and France started last year and we have been protesting since January. Our requirements have been known for two months, so some specific government measures should have been introduced a long time ago. The Prime Minister himself did not provide any details, but only said that he will inform about it on Tuesday. So I don’t want to comment on anything that isn’t specific
– say.
There are things that need to be done now. It is best to impose customs duties and remove excess grain from the market somehow, because we as farmers have nowhere to sell it. If we don’t collect them, farmers will have no place to store their new crops. It’s already March, in four months we will start harvesting. Drought is unlikely to threaten us, so there will be no reduction in harvests, and we already have surpluses. Ports are covered, purchasing companies are covered, mills are also covered, farmers also have their warehouses covered with grain.
– underlined.
However, when it comes to the Green Deal, we cannot talk about suspending it at all, because something that has been suspended can be undone at any time. We need a strong stand on this issue. The Prime Minister must come up with concrete solutions on Tuesday
– he adds.
