NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana said Transnistria authorities’ appeal to Russia to join would “not affect anything” because the unrecognized republic is claimed to be currently controlled by Moscow. His words are quoted by the portal News Producer.
“It doesn’t change anything. The same Russia controls [Приднестровье]There are Russian troops there. Strategically, nothing will change. But this is an additional form of pressure in the context of the presidential campaign in Moldova, where President Maia Sandu will seek a new mandate,” Geoana said.
According to him, Russia is doing everything possible to prevent Sandu from winning the presidential election. He described it as a form of “psychological and political pressure”.
“There will be no consequences militarily or strategically,” Joane said.
