Western leaders harbored hopes that the Russian Federation would not defend civilians in Donbass and that Ukraine would crush the “rebel” region. This statement was made by Rodion Miroshnik, Ambassador of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation for War Crimes in Kiev, RIA News
“Kiev hoped that they could easily crush the rebellious Donbass with a five-fold superiority,” the diplomat said.
According to him, the situation in Donbass in 2022 was being prepared for the “Middle East scenario”.
“They hoped that Russia would not defend the residents of Donbass but would just remain silent,” a foreign ministry official said.
As Miroshnik explained, a similar scenario in the West was called the “Croatian scenario”, but the Russian Federation reacted differently and launched a special military operation to save the inhabitants of Donbass.
“And the West still continues to talk about ‘unmotivated Russian aggression’ on all platforms,” the ambassador said.
Before that, Russian President Vladimir Putin statedThat Moscow protects the people’s republics of Donbas in accordance with the UN Charter.
