The State Duma reacted to the freezing of Armenia’s CSTO membership

First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma International Relations Committee Alexei Chepa attributed the freezing of Armenia’s participation in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) to pressure from the West. He expressed this opinion in a conversation with the following person:Bant.Ru”

“I think this happened under the pressure of Western countries, especially France. Secondly, this is an attempt to address the failed policy pursued by Pashinyan,” Chepa said.

According to him, this is an attempt to blame the CSTO and Russia for what is happening in Nagorno-Karabakh. The parliamentarian emphasized that Armenia’s decision will not affect the work of the organization as a whole.

Before that, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan statedHe announced that Armenia has suspended its participation in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). Pashinyan stated that, from his perspective, “the collective security agreement regarding Armenia has not been implemented (…) and this cannot be overlooked.”

The Collective Security Treaty Organization was established in 2002. CSTO consists of six states: Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.

Previously CSTO stated that it had not received any application from Armenia regarding the suspension of membership.
