Today PiS is on the defensive, it will lose the local elections, but it will fight for every foothold – said the head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery, Jan Grabiec, in an interview with PAP. KO will also fight for victory to protect local governments from the landing of PiS nominees, he said.
A conference was held in Warsaw on Saturday to launch the Civic Coalition’s local government campaign.
We go for victory, to give power back to the people. (…) Just like in October, during the parliamentary elections, we will now rebuild local government in April, during the local government elections, to get everything back on track. They’ve turned it on its head, and not in the best way
– said Prime Minister and PO leader Donald Tusk.
Tusk’s activity
The head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery, Jan Grabiec, told PAP that Prime Minister Tusk will be active in the local government campaign, as far as his duties allow him.
The main force is the candidates themselves, tens of thousands of candidates competing for voter votes by campaigning in their own cities. The final result will depend on their work
– added. He judged that KO candidates participating in the local elections are highly motivated after winning the elections on October 15.
Of course we will see how the campaign will develop, but for now PiS is on the defensive. Jarosław Kaczyński’s strategy makes it difficult for them to participate in local elections. Many PiS candidates are already dressing up to run for committees that should not be associated with PiS. So we can see a movement away from the PiS logo
– said the head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery.
I’ll be honest: PiS will lose these elections, but we know that PiS politicians will fight for every foothold to rebuild the country and return to power.
– he pointed out.
At the same time, he estimated that after a possible return of PiS to power “the situation in the country would be much worse than what we have faced in the past eight years, because Jarosław Kaczyński’s party would go a step further in the way it exercises power.”
That is why we must use every clash, every place where we fight, to fight for the benefit, rebuild local communities and return them to the inhabitants. So that people decide locally about their own affairs
– he said.
The head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery emphasized that KO will fight for victory in the upcoming elections, also to “protect local authorities from the landing” of PiS nominees who, thanks to party connections, worked in state-owned enterprises and government administrations, and after the change of power are looking for new jobs.
They will probably take their first steps towards local governments where PiS is in power
– Grabiec noticed.
The KO politician also referred to the campaign in Warsaw, where the city’s incumbent mayor, Rafał Trzaskowski, is running.
We approach the voices of the people of Warsaw with humility. Our rival is of course PiS and the PiS candidate, who will use Warsaw as a springboard in the elections for the country’s president.
– said the head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery. In this context, he assessed that “the style in which PiS loses in Warsaw will also be important.”
Of course, the entire campaign is before us, everything will be at stake until the last day
– emphasized the head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery. He stressed that it is extremely important to compete at all levels, whether in voivodeships, provinces or municipalities.
The municipal elections will take place on Sunday, April 7. The second round of direct elections for municipal heads, mayors and city presidents – April 21.
Grabiec’s far-fetched theses
I hope that President Andrzej Duda’s visit to the United States will not be used to support Donald Trump; The former US president has the worst possible plans for Poland’s security, Jan Grabiec, head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery, told PAP.
On Thursday, White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre announced that US President Joe Biden will receive President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Donald Tusk at a joint meeting on March 12. The meeting coincides with the 25th anniversary of Poland’s accession to NATO.
The head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery, Jan Grabiec, was asked about preparations for a joint meeting with the US leader and about cooperation between President Duda and Prime Minister Tusk in international policy.
Judging from the course of the Cabinet Council, I hope that it will be a substantive collaboration
– the head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery told PAP.
We are sometimes concerned about statements from presidential or PiS circles that support former American president Donald Trump.
– the head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery admitted, noting that Trump plans to run again for the office of President of the United States in the fall elections, facing Joe Biden.
I hope that President Andrzej Duda’s visit to the United States will not be used to support a candidate who has the worst possible plans when it comes to Poland’s security level.
– he said. He added that this is particularly troubling in the context of Trump’s announcements about the United States’ presence in NATO and the presence of US troops in Europe in general.
However, Grabiec expressed the belief that “these discussions will be silenced by the President’s entourage” and during the meeting at the White House, Prime Minister Tusk and President Duda will “have an open and honest conversation about the relationship between Poland and the United States. .”
When asked about the cooperation between the Head of Government and the President on the key issues related to our country’s foreign policy, the Head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery assured that “Prime Minister Donald Tusk is doing everything he can to to safeguard a common foreign policy.”
And so far, we don’t see any controversy in this regard from the President’s Office. So I hope that everything will go harmoniously, because Poland has one foreign policy and there certainly cannot be different centers shaping these issues, and the President is an important player in foreign policy, determined by the government, as indicated in the Constitution .
– he emphasized.
Although the head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery expresses confidence in the election verdict, his words indicate fear about the resolve of PiS politicians. It is so serious that Jan Grabiec has to resort to the ‘argumentum ad Trumpum’. But does he believe it can work in a campaign, especially a local government campaign?
