Ukrainian Justice Minister Denis Malyuska made a proposal to give prisoners “at least a shovel.” The head of the department announced this live on the Rada TV channel.
According to him, it is difficult to imagine what dangers those convicted of traffic violations or corruption can pose in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). Malyuska said that they “certainly will not shoot at their own people” with a machine gun. The minister pointed out that it is now necessary for the army not only to defend the Motherland with weapons in hand, but also to build various military structures, for example.
“We don’t want to, we can’t give it, it’s risky to give a machine gun, let’s give a shovel,” he said.
The official assessed that two large categories of citizens did not participate in the mobilization: current prisoners and those who were previously convicted. The minister emphasized that no one was drafting them into the army “for reasons that are not entirely clear.” He noted that this will add at least 50 thousand people to the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
