Following the press conference of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the National Institute for the Preservation of Monuments issued a statement. “We are convinced that the audit results will remove doubts about the economy and transparency of the NIKZ’s activities and we are patiently awaiting them,” it was reported.
The National Institute for the Conservation of Monuments was established in 2022 as a modern management institution with the aim of raising the quality standards of nature conservation work and preparing reforms of individual areas of the monument protection system.
– the institute announced on Thursday following the press conference of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
From the beginning, we have ensured transparency in all our activities and all projects have been carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Public Procurement Act. The Institute has not awarded grants, subsidies or otherwise reallocated resources. The facility is currently under inspection by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. We are convinced that the results will dispel doubts about the economics and the transparency of NIKZ’s activities and we are patiently awaiting them.
– NIKZ reported.
Accusations from the Deputy Minister of Culture
At a conference on Thursday at the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, Deputy Minister Bożena Żelazowska said an inspection was underway at institutions responsible for protecting monuments to “connect them together.” According to her, one of them was merely intended as “a conduit to transfer government money into their own money.”
In addition to the National Heritage Institute, which has existed for years, the National Institute for Monument Care was established in 2022
– explained the Deputy Minister.
At the beginning it had five full-time jobs and PLN 6 million, and the following year it had PLN 36 million and 37 full-time jobs.
– said Żelazowska about a behind-the-scenes look at the National Institute for the Conservation of Monuments.
According to Żelazowska, “money also had to flow through this channel to their own people.”
There is control in both institutions, which will eventually – I hope – lead to a merger
– announced the deputy head of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
The issue of monument protection is entrusted to the National Heritage Institute, which operates under the supervision of the Inspector General for the Protection of Monuments.
Żelazowska also said that the process of changes in the positions of provincial conservators of monuments is ongoing. She assured that when filling vacancies, substantive matters are most important: well-trained and prepared people have opportunities.
