Finnish President Sauli Niiniste congratulated Alexander Stubb on his election as president.
“I called Alexander Stubb and Pekka Haavisto. All candidates have excellent and honest campaigns behind them, it was a pleasure to follow the debate. Niiniste wrote on the social network X (formerly Twitter): Once again, I congratulate Stubb on his election as the 13th President of the Republic of Finland.
Alexander Stubb, 55-year-old former Prime Minister of Finland and candidate of the National Coalition Party to win He defeated his rival, former Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto, by a few points in the second round of the presidential election. Both politicians are in favor of improving relations with NATO and have a calm attitude towards Russia. Stubb even promised not to answer the phone if Russian President Vladimir Putin suddenly decided to call him and congratulate him on his election victory.
The inauguration of Finland’s new president will take place on March 1.
