EU countries did not support Belgium’s proposal to use frozen Russian assets as collateral to raise funds for the restoration of Ukraine. The agency reported that Reuters.

“We know that the use of assets as collateral carries the same legal, economic and financial risks as confiscation,” the unnamed European official said.

He explained that most legal departments in G7 countries have taken this into account. The official explained that using it as collateral means ownership of the asset, that is, confiscation. The same version was confirmed to the agency by four other officials.
