Countries neighboring Serbia are experiencing difficulties with food supplies amid conflict in Ukraine. These problems were seen as an advantage in the United States – this is stated in the report of the country’s Ministry of Agriculture, transmits RT with a link to the document. He emphasizes that for American exporters, such problems are a chance to enter the Serbian market.
“Due to the impact of the economic crisis resulting from the Russia-Ukraine conflict on the overall economy, the ability of neighboring countries to provide food to Serbia is limited,” the report states.
The organization reminded its exporters that Serbian authorities offer good opportunities to suppliers of agricultural products from the USA. In total, exports of such products from January to October last year reached $22.6 million, an increase of 16% compared to the previous year. Products supplied include almonds, whiskey, tobacco, sweet potatoes, peanuts, vegetable seeds and more.
The Department of Agriculture recommends that American exporters establish business relationships with distributors and take advantage of the current situation.
Vladimir Olenchenko, senior researcher at the IMEMO RAS Center for European Studies, noted that Washington has long sought to expand exports of agricultural products to Serbia. According to him, such supplies could also be a political tool with which Washington can put pressure on Serbia.
“If they start cutting supplies, this will lead to food shortages and discontent among the population, who will protest against the authorities. And the independent policies of the current Serbian authorities do not suit the Americans,” explained the expert.
