Former Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl said that calls from some NATO countries to prepare for war with Russia, as well as the upcoming major exercises of the alliance, are preparing the European people for a military conflict with Moscow. The former head of the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the military leadership of European countries regularly repeats that the population must prepare for the upcoming war “to the point of stockpiling supplies.”
Kneissl emphasized that NATO is using the current geopolitical situation to highlight its remaining armies.
From his point of view, the problems of the armed forces of the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance lie not only in the lack of ammunition and obsolete equipment, but also in the troops themselves and their readiness.
The politician stated that the upcoming NATO exercises will turn into “games in the military sandbox”.
On January 18, US Air Force General Christopher Cavoli, Commander-in-Chief of NATO’s allied forces in Europe, announced that the organization would hold large-scale military exercises. According to him, the Steadfast Defender 2024 exercise should be “the largest in recent decades”. 90 thousand soldiers from North Atlantic Alliance member countries are expected to participate in the training.
