Former Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Prof. Grzegorz Kołodko spoke with a large reserve about the current state of the Polish economy. “There is not much milk or honey, and there is still not enough for many. I am especially an economist, not a politician and I know that there will always be such indicators who show the good sides of reality, which is not perfect for such a balance again,” he noticed in Polsat News. Prof. Kołodko also emphasized that if Rafał Trzaskowski wins the elections and becomes president, the government of Donald Tusk will be more willing to make unpopular economic decisions.
Prof. Kołodko was asked by the teacher about his attitude towards the optimistic statements of coalition and government politicians about the state of the Polish economy. However, the economist noted that they do not have much in common with reality.
This economic situation is not that good for each balance, and it seems to me that the government is difficult to control some threads. Perhaps because of the fact that we were working on a permanent election campaign, that people had hardly been terminated and this government was created, and then the most important thing was to remove that formation from the power
– Said the former Deputy Prime Minister.
In his opinion, many specialists who are nice for the current power also have many doubts about the Polish economy, and under the allegations include low spending in the EU for research and development. Prof. Kołodko also paid attention to the Polish budget deficit, which is one of the highest and low competitiveness of our economy in relation to other highly developed countries.
Will the government tighten the screw?
Prof. Grzegorz Kołodko estimated that if the presidential elections were won by Ko Rafał Trzaskowski candidate, the government of Donald Tusk will take more daring steps in the context of economic reforms.
I have no doubt that if the candidate wins the prevailing coalition, the government and the prime minister will personally change the tons of his statements and perform some structural and institutional steps in economic policy, which does not seem popular
– noted prof. Kolodko.
The former finance minister also described the election promises of the candidates as “Frivolous”.
This very badly influences the elections and the political campaign that promises have been detached from harsh economic circumstances
– He emphasized.
Election promises
The former Deputy Prime Minister remembered the election promises of KO before the parliamentary elections in 2023 and criticized those formulated in the so -driven hundred details. He assessed that they were unrealistic from the start.
I already said that this is just an unrealistic answer, but it was said – it is invalid, it is important that someone would give it, not to say, to take it, to believe and vote for us
– He explained, although at the same time he emphasized that he was aware of the fact that every party that would promote “economically correct views” could not win in the elections.
In his opinion, it is urgent to tackle the issue of increasing retirement age, which in his opinion is needed in economic and demographic conditions.
Someone would say: yes, only this way you can’t win the elections. I would say that honesty with regard to society that politicians, candidates are more like an electorate, voting machine, sometimes pays off
– noted Prof. Grzegorz Kołodko.
In this context, he used the example of French President Emmanuel Macron, who emphasized the need to increase retirement age in his country and, despite this, won the presidential election for the second time.
The economist explained that the idea of increasing retirement age is extremely unpopular in Poland, and if one of the presidential candidates would openly propagate it, he would be separated by competitors.
Cutbacks in reinforcement
The former Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that Prime Minister Tusk would be forced to “do something about the state’s budget and not to exclude that some costs would be needed. Kołodko estimated that in his opinion too much money seems to have been strengthened.
I am most in favor of maintaining the right level and the care of safety, but the safety is that there is a balance between different political and military troops in this roaming world, and have no benefit from someone
– said the economist.
It’s not so much to spend more, but wiser, because we spend a lot
He added.
He also emphasized that if he was currently at the head of the Ministry of Finance, he would post a reduction in defense expenditure.
But I am aware that I would not receive it in the current political system
PF emphasized. Grzegorz Kołodko.
