Polish President Andrzej Duda accused the European Union (EU) leadership of trying to influence the political structure in his country due to the blocking of approximately 60 billion Euros allocated to recover from the coronavirus pandemic during the previous government. “This was a purely political act against the previous Polish authorities, an attempt to change the government,” Duda said, noting that current events only confirm this.

Duda’s announcement followed “signs” that the EU was nearing a funding deal after Poland’s new government, led by Prime Minister Donald Tusk, vowed to reverse changes to the judiciary.
