UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Syria, Geir Pedersen, will participate in the negotiations to be held in Astana on January 24-25. This was reported by TASS Referring to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.

A quadripartite meeting was held in Astana on June 20 at the level of deputy foreign ministers of Russia, Syria, Turkey and Iran regarding the normalization of Turkey-Syria relations.

Later, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Kanat Tumysh said that Astana proposed that the past negotiations be made the last round of meetings in this format.

On June 22, the diplomatic department announced that the government of Kazakhstan ready to continue As a sign of goodwill, upon the common request of the parties, negotiations on Syria will be held in the capital of the republic in the Astana format.
