Law and Justice President Jarosław Kaczyński came to Krakow on Thursday to pray at Wawel Cathedral for his brother Lech and his wife, who died in the Smolensk disaster. At the same time, a demonstration in defense of Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik took place near Wawel. The crowd also went to the German consulate. “Take Tusk to Berlin,” they shouted.
The PiS leader’s visit to Wawel was confirmed by two sources. The president of PiS comes to Krakow almost every 18th day of the month to pray and lay flowers at the sarcophagus of Lech and Maria Kaczyński.
“We demand their release.”
Thursday’s visit was accompanied by a demonstration by about 200 opponents of the current ruling coalition. They brought white and red flags and solidarity flags to Wawel. They chanted slogans: “This is Poland, not Brussels”, “This is an independent Poland”, “Tusk to prison”.
They called for the release of Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik.
This meeting is dedicated to political prisoners. We demand their release
– said the leader of the demonstration, Ryszard Majdzik, an oppositionist during the time of the Polish People’s Republic, and an activist of Solidarity.
One of the participants of the demonstration, through a megaphone, appealed to those present to search the Internet for the addresses of the detention centers where Kamiński and Wąsik are being held and to send cards to these prisoners.
To let them know we are with them
– she emphasized.
““Take Tusk to Berlin”
From the Wawel area the demonstration moved to ul. Stolarska in front of the American and German consulates to commemorate the Kamiński and Wąsik case. The demonstration was attended by, among others, former Małopolska education inspector Barbara Nowak.
There will be a punishment for Bodnar
– sung.
“Bring Tusk to Berlin”; “Where are our reparations”?
– shouted the crowd outside the German consulate in Krakow.
