As we have repeatedly emphasized, more and more Western media are writing about the illegal and undemocratic methods by which the government of Donald Tusk is trying to gain dominance in the Polish state.
The Telegraph
One of the most respected British conservative media outlets published an article pointing out the hypocrisy of European institutions remaining silent about Tusk’s next actions in Poland.
Pro-European fanatics are silent about the new illiberal turn in Poland
– this is the title of a text by columnist Alan Sked, in which he writes about many abuses of power by Tusk and describes the silence in the liberal Western media as follows:
The reason seems simple: the person responsible for this situation is the former President of the European Council. He is seen as a liberal who is committed to restoring the rule of law, which – as his story goes – was destroyed by the previous ‘far-right’ party Law and Justice (PiS).
Sked, emeritus professor of history at the London School of Economics, describes how Tusk won elections in ‘supposedly undemocratic Poland’ by throwing himself into purges of the institutions of the Polish state.
However, one would hardly expect any unrest in European liberal circles about the ways in which he tried to overcome these problems. In fact, according to Tusk’s critics, he seems to believe that the best way to restore the rule of law is to break it.
– writes the Brit and concludes:
How this saga will end is still uncertain. But one thing is clear: this lover of European institutions does not appear to be a liberal at all.
The American Conservative
The next medium to sharply criticize what Tusk did was The American Conservative, with a text entitled ‘Gangster Tactics in Liberal Poland’. Michael O’Shea analyzes all the illegal steps Tusk’s government has taken and wonders whether something similar could happen to the United States after the presidential election.
The truth about Tusk is slowly reaching public opinion abroad
“Eurocrats are out for blood,” a colleague from Brussels warned me before the October parliamentary elections in Poland. This was not shocking news because the national-populist Law and Justice Party (PiS) that ruled Poland at the time aroused inexhaustible hatred among the EU establishment. However, few predicted the speed and severity of the revenge
– O’Shea begins his text and continues:
Just a month after taking power, Donald Tusk revives memories of a bygone era with a series of highly visible gangster tactics. This is the same Tusk who made the rule of law the centerpiece of his election campaign.
After recalling the circumstances of the attack on TVP and the arrest of Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik, O’Shea also writes about other negative aspects of Tusk’s policies.
Although many Poles, perhaps a majority, voted against PiS, they did not necessarily support LGBT activism, actions against the Catholic Church and the transfer of power to Brussels
– writes the publicist and continues:
The EU recognizes that the behavior of Tusk’s government is publicly indefensible. “We will not comment on specific events in Member States,” European Commission spokesman Eric Mamer said on Wednesday. This is the hypocrisy of an institution that has consistently interfered in the activities of the Polish government.
O’Shea then quotes British political scientist John O’Sullivan.
The consensus of the centrist establishment in Europe does not really accept the right of ‘extremists’ to come to power. When this happens, they feel justified in using supranational legal and political authority to limit and even eliminate these forces.
Finally, he adds that what is happening in Poland can be a lesson for the European and American political forces opposed to the system.
Tusk’s transnational legal and political power serves as a warning to European countries such as Hungary, Slovakia and the Netherlands that have opted for anti-establishment governments. It is also a harbinger of possible events in Washington when some enemies of democracy emerge in November, after the presidential elections.
As I wrote: Tusk’s image as a smiling liberal and advocate of the policies of reconciliation and dialogue has long been destroyed.
