If immunity is lifted, the Public Prosecution Service plans to file a number of charges against Confederation MP Grzegorz Braun, including: breach of internal peace and insulting the Sejm, the Justice Ministry told PAP. The Sejm received a motion to lift the immunity of Confederation MP Grzegorz Braun; I have submitted documents on this issue to the Committee on the Rules, Deputies and Immunities, said the Marshal of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia.
Braun faces some charges!
As the press service of the Ministry of Justice told PAP on Thursday, if immunity is lifted, the Public Prosecution Service plans to charge Grzegorz Braun with crimes related, among other things, to: “violation of the physical integrity of Łukasz Szumowski in connection with with the performance of his official duties, as well as the use of physical force to enforce a specific behavior; defaming Łukasz Szumowski through the mass media with the fact that he was under the influence of alcohol, which could have humiliated him in public opinion; damage to the Christmas tree, damage to sound equipment, violation of domestic peace by not leaving the German Historical Institute, insulting a group of people on the grounds of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland and insulting an object of religious worship.
Under the law, the request for the waiver of immunity is sent by the Minister of Justice and the Attorney General to the Speaker of the Sejm.
– added the ministry. It was submitted to the Sejm on Wednesday.
Request for waiver of immunity
On Thursday morning, Chairman of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia announced that the motion to lift Braun’s immunity “is under consideration.”
Today I also signed documents on this issue, I have already sent them to the Committee on Immunities (Committee of Rules, Delegates’ Affairs and Immunities – PAP), so we will probably vote on it soon
– said the marshal.
There is also the subject of Bosak
Marshal Hołownia during a meeting with students of the 1st High School. Bolesław Limanowski in Warsaw was also asked about his opinion on the left’s motion to dismiss Krzysztof Bosak (Confederation) from the position of deputy chairman of the Sejm.
We will probably vote on this motion during this meeting (next week). I have mixed feelings about this conclusion. On the one hand, I appreciate Bosak because I think he is a very intelligent politician. He learns extremely quickly. He wants to learn, he is constantly seeking knowledge. He is a man with whom it is sometimes fun to argue, but we argue all the time in the Presidium of the Sejm and there is no point in having a Presidium of the Sejm made up of the ruling coalition itself. So if PiS does not want to have a representative in the Presidium of the Sejm – PAP, it would be good if at least he was there. However, Grzegorz Braun has a problem
– said Hołownia.
He added that he still expects “a much clearer and decisive position from the Confederation’s parliamentarians, because it is difficult for me to see Krzysztof Bosak in the Presidium of the Sejm as a representative of Grzegorz Braun.”
Grzegorz Braun is not allowed to have representatives in the Presidium of the Sejm. This is politics, there are still a few days until the meeting (of the Sejm), there will be talks, there will be “fighting”, there will be persuasion, solutions will be sought. We’ll see how it turns out. I doubt whether I will vote for this motion. She doesn’t have a left, I respect that. PiS doesn’t have that either, because PiS would really like to see the Presidium of the Sejm without any opposition representative, because it fits its narrative very well. However, I am not necessarily always willing to play PiS’s political game, even if it costs something
– said Hołownia.
Let us remind you that the Left Club filed a motion to dismiss Krzysztof Bosak as deputy chairman of the Sejm, arguing that he allowed Braun to speak after the incident and enabled him to make an anti-Semitic speech. The Left pointed out that Deputy Marshal Bosak’s insufficient response to Braun’s words forced Marshal Hołownia to take over the proceedings.
A fire extinguisher and a Hanukkah, but also statements against Szumowski
The proceedings involving MP Braun became public when he used a powder fire extinguisher to extinguish Hanukkah candles lit during a ceremony in the Sejm on December 12 last year. He then appeared on the Sejm stage as the meeting was chaired by Deputy Marshal Krzysztof Bosak. The meeting was taken over by Marshal Hołownia, who excluded Braun from the meeting and announced that, among other things, he would file a request against him with the prosecutor’s office. for disrupting a religious ceremony. Hołownia also announced that the Presidium of the Sejm had punished Braun by depriving him of half his salary for three months and his full allowance for six months.
Justice Minister and Attorney General Adam Bodnar said after the incident that he had spoken about the case with National Prosecutor Dariusz Barski. The head of the Justice Ministry subsequently announced that he had received a “quite extensive” document on the proceedings against Grzegorz Braun.
There were many of these cases. Some of them were even known to the public, but somehow disappeared into oblivion
– he said.
He recalled that these were matters that included: former Health Ministers Łukasz Szumowski and Adam Niedzielski, or the issue of statements about Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
Reading what happened, I have the impression that there was probably a lack of determination and consistency when it comes to identifying all these cases and prosecuting Grzegorz Braun.
– he assessed.
He added that two previous cases were particularly crucial.
“One is the famous destruction of a symbolic Christmas tree erected by the Association of Polish Judges, and the other is an attack during a lecture by a history professor from Germany. It was a lecture that took place in the History Meeting House; here you don’t even need more information to see that prohibited acts may have been committed
– Bodnar noted.
