The behavior of the police officers during the arrest of Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik in the Presidential Palace made the ladies who worked there cry; it happened after Kamiński was taken out and hit against the door frame – Marcin Mastalerek, Head of the Office of the President of the Republic of Poland, told Polsat News.
“Yes, it happened in my office.”
On Tuesday, police arrested PiS politicians, former heads of the CBA, Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik, who were staying in the presidential palace at the time.
Mastalerek was asked if it was true that Maciej Wąsik and Mariusz Kamiński were held and handcuffed in his office.
Yes, it happened in my office. I was in the Vatican at the time, on a business trip. Unfortunately I wasn’t there at the time, I wasn’t in the Palace at all that day. I didn’t arrive until the evening
– said the minister.
When asked what the detention looked like from the perspective of presidential palace officials, Mastalerek replied:
From what I was told it seemed to be an expression of frustration at the failed action that morning and the incompetence of the Polish police. And what was done in the presidential palace seemed – from the perspective of the people who were there – to be an expression of frustration at the incompetence, at the police’s failure to capture the MPs Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik before 11 a.m. to arrest.
– said Mastalerek.
They made women cry!
According to him, the behavior of the police officers towards Wąsik and Kamiński made the ladies working in the palace cry.
The frustration that broke out after the failed action in the morning and the behavior of the police officers made the ladies cry.
He added that it happened after police, while taking Mariusz Kamiński away, “knocked him against the door frame.”
When asked if it was deliberate behavior or an accident, Mastalek said:
I was told this, and I know this because the president talked about brutal behavior. If you come to the presidential palace, it (requires) a minimum of culture and behavior
– said Mastalerek. He described the behavior of the police officers as ‘disgraceful’.
“Why did Mariusz Kamiński hit the door frame when he left?
Mastalerek expressed his incomprehension as to why “the police did not come politely, after all, they knew where they (Kamiński and Wąsik) were, and did not ask the head of the President’s Chancellery to leave them.”
Why were a dozen police officers brought in (to the palace), why were seven officers in my office dealing with two MPs? Why did Mariusz Kamiński hit the door frame when he left? Why women cried. Is there simply no culture?
– asked the minister.
According to him, in the case of Kamiński and Wąsik, “today we are primarily dealing with a violation of justice.”
“This case is not closed yet.”
Mastalerek was asked if the president, besides being shocked, could do anything else for Kamiński and Wąsik.
When the President stated the obvious that Minister (of Culture, Bartłomiej) Sienkiewicz broke the law and the Constitution, (…) most people in the media said that Minister Sienkiewicz was right. Today, the National Council for the Judiciary refused to propose new public media authorities to Minister Sienkiewicz and de facto agreed with what President Duda said. And I sincerely hope that soon – as in the case of the public media – it will turn out that the president is right. Because the president consistently says: “parliamentarians are effectively pardoned and must continue to exercise their mandate”
– he answered.
The minister was asked whether a decision on the second act of mercy could be expected so that Kamiński and Wąsik would be released from prison.
If the president has something to say, he will inform about it. Nowadays, however, there are other options. I don’t want to go into details here. However, this case is not yet closed and I hope that (…) over time it will turn out that (the president) was right and the gentlemen will simply be released from prison, because they belong in freedom, they have nothing to do with them ashamed of
– said Mastalerek.
Responding to the comment that some people suggest that Andrzej Duda should pardon both PiS politicians again, Mastalerek said that “however, there are doubts whether this would simply be recognized.”
Shattered confidence in SOP?
When asked if the president still relied on the SOP officials who protected him, Mastalerek replied in the affirmative. He emphasized that he knew these officers and how responsible and hard their work was.
I am confident that any of them, using personal protection, would cover the President with his body. Of course, the president will not give up (their protection).
– he emphasized.
Mastalerek added that the SOP is subordinate to the Ministry of the Interior and Administration.
And personal security is one thing and palace security is another. And the SOP leadership engaged police officers and issued commands and duty orders to the officers
– he pointed out.
Again, it’s 1000 percent. the president’s confidence in SOP officials
– emphasized the presidential minister.
