In Warsaw, MPs Mariusz Gosek from Sovereign Poland and Jerzy Polaczek of PiS held a meeting with the director of the Grochów Remand Center to discuss the circumstances surrounding their detained colleagues. Gosek described the exchange as focused and constructive, noting that answers were provided to a dozen questions and that personal matters were also addressed. The remarks were shared during an interview with wPolsce.pl, where he highlighted the exchange’s directness and usefulness. Meanwhile, former CBA chief Mariusz Kamiński, who has publicly opposed the current government’s handling of law enforcement, has begun a hunger protest. Kamiński and Wąsik are awaiting placement in a prison where they are to serve a two-year sentence.

The deputies were admitted to the detention center

Gosek was among those who waited outside the gate of the Grochów Remand Center in Warsaw until late in the evening, pursuing permission to enter. In a conversation with the wPolityce.pl portal, he explained that the visit aimed to inquire about the health status of the detainees and to convey information to their families about their condition.

Gosek stressed that while health updates were a priority, the information flow to families remained the immediate concern. He described Kamiński as a resilient figure who publicly protests against what he sees as unlawful actions in the political landscape.

He noted, during the detention of both deputies as reported by Monitor Polski, that there had been no published information indicating that Kamiński’s and Wąsik’s mandates had expired. The matter was clarified to the Marshal of Hołownia by the head of the National Electoral Commission, establishing that Kamiński and Wąsik were still serving as Members of Parliament at that time. If their mandates had already ended, their names would have been removed from the Sejm website, which underscored that the process of ending their mandates and the question of immunity were distinct and not yet resolved by a court decision in the criminal case.

The process to terminate the mandates of Kamiński and Wąsik had not been completed by the time of their arrest; both remained MPs during that period.

What about Kierwiński’s SOP?

Gosek suggested that President Andrzej Duda faced a significant challenge in handling the broader situation, extending beyond the detention of Kamiński and Wąsik. The president was urged to scrutinize the conduct of officers from the State Protection Service, which operates under the minister responsible for Kierwiński and is charged with guarding the presidential residence. Questions were raised about actions by personnel whose behavior was not disclosed to the president, leading to discussions about potentially restructuring or separating parts of this service from the military police framework. Given recent events, there is skepticism about the presidential palace’s protection remaining under SOP control.

The deputy drew a parallel with past security incidents, noting concerns about how security services acted during critical moments. The Public Prosecution Service might soon review the actions of SOP personnel inside the presidential residence and during the president’s visits to Belweder. The case has been referred for consideration by prosecutors due to possible criminal implications tied to those practices. The description of the scene at the presidential palace included reports of SOP officers moving through corridors alongside police, prompting comparisons to unstable governance rhetoric. The comments were made as the president met with representatives of the Belarusian opposition.

Gosek concluded by saying that the matter would be brought before the public prosecutor’s office and that it involves potential criminal conduct. The focus remained on ensuring that appropriate accountability measures are pursued in relation to the security operations surrounding the head of state.
