The ‘expert’ calls for actual capitulation on the issue of public media, addressed to the leaders of Law and Justice, are astounding..
The argument has been known for a long time, is present in almost all cases and reduces everything to image issues. We hear that this fight only matters to the ‘hard electorate’, always invoked with a noticeable hint of disdain. As if the only acceptable role of the most loyal PiS voters was to aid various types of fraudsters in their operations to move the independence camp to the mythical “center”, while letting go of the most important things. (By the way: this “center does not really exist; there are only groups that follow strong narratives, but without specific long-term political visions”).
The matter is serious. The battle for the media is a battle over a fundamental issue: about the rule of law. If the December 13 coalition wins easily, if the price for this theft turns out to be low, if the independence camp accepts the powerful method of taking over institutions, this will mean the end of hopes for any tangible change in Poland. The remaining independent institutions will be quickly taken over. Then Polish media with a strong identity will be targeted. A little later, the media are weak in terms of identity, but also the media that are at least partially independent. At the end of this road there is simply a delegation of PiS and all forces that would attempt to take over the banner of freedom and sovereignty.
After such a great defeat as that which befell the Poles on October 15, counting on a quick turn of the page, on finding a quick recipe to return to power, is a dangerous illusion. Today, goals must be defined differently. So first of all saving structures, fabrics and organizational fabric. Second, to stop the murderous tendencies of the authorities and save freedom. Third, there is a transition to an oppositional mode, which requires a different attitude, a different approach and different methods. Fourth, you need patience.
Anyone hoping for a quick turnaround on October 15 risks both frustration and real defeat. Today we must fight to save democracy and pluralism. Only when PiS saves the rule of law from the spy junta’s coup will the classic power game make sense. If there is no political freedom in Poland, even the best image of PiS will not help. Therefore, analyzes of social attitudes in the current situation are absurd cannot be a justification for desertion and actual surrender.
