‘Just pay attention to Donald Tusk’s explanation. There was talk of settlements with emotional elements, but what is happening in Tusk Poland, only God knows,” the prog told the wPolityce.pl portal. Mieczysław Ryba, historian and political scientist, lecturer at the Catholic University of Lublin.
wPolityce.pl: New government, new Sejm. A temporary change or a reflection of a trend that will permanently change the balance of power in Polish politics?
Prof. Mieczysław Ryba: This arrangement appears to have stabilized until the presidential elections. Only the elections mentioned above can violate this. Now, however, due to the distribution of positions and appanages, the situation will not change much. However, I would describe the situation as difficult. Poland no longer opposes the policies promoted by Brussels. Hungary stands alone in this matter. Warsaw is now riding the German wave, at a time when the European Union is centralizing and inventing various energy follies. At the same time, those in power are financing a political war by announcing ‘purges’ in public institutions and an ideological war, as ministries such as education and family end up in the hands of rebellious politicians. In a situation where the country is facing enormous challenges, we have created a huge internal conflict.
On the other hand, the new ruling team insists that they have managed to obtain funds from the KPO.
This is just a propaganda argument, but in fact it is not the KPO that will decide the future and development of Poland, but the expansion of the port in Świnoujście, the construction of the CPK or the construction of nuclear power plants. These are the problems that increase our status and competitiveness compared to Germany, not how many wind turbines we buy. We are not a poor country from the early 1990s that only receives a financial infusion from the West. Poland is already on another level. It must determine its future subjectively and not remain at the mercy of other countries.
In the context of the new cabinet we are talking about three political forces: KO, Third Way and Left. However, it is worth noting that the current majority that forms the coalition consists of eleven parties. Will this allow for a stable government?
This is a government without vision. Just pay attention to Donald Tusk’s explanation. There was talk of settlements with emotional elements, but what is going on in Tusk Poland, only God knows. I repeat: there is no vision here. It is just a sum of opposites glued together. I wouldn’t be surprised if Donald Tusk left Polish politics within a year. Without his power and the authority he undoubtedly enjoys on the other side, this conglomerate would become even more fragmented and managed from the outside.
If Donald Tusk were absent from Polish politics, could Rafał Trzaskowski take the reins of government and become the actual leader of the Civic Platform and its allies?
I do not think so. Rafał Trzaskowski is currently not a member of parliament. It would be difficult to supervise the work of the Council of Ministers without being present in the Sejm. Moreover, Donald Tusk keeps him on as president of Warsaw for some reason. Taking over the post of Prime Minister without parliamentary support would only increase the chaos in the Civic Platform. We would be dealing with a repeat of Ewa Kopacz’s tenure. Therefore, I doubt that the former candidate for the presidency of the Republic of Poland will inherit Tusk’s legacy.
Thank you for the conversation.
