It is high time to introduce civil partnerships in Poland. I would really like to see a government project on this issue – Equality Minister Katarzyna Kotula (left wing) told PAP. She added that she would like to start consultations on this project within a month.
According to Kotula, it is high time to introduce civil partnerships in Poland, even if – as she admits – this is a long-standing demand of the left.
And I hope that today there is an environment that makes this possible. Because today I really hear from our coalition partners full support for the introduction of these partnerships
– said the Minister of Equality.
Asked whether the left already had a project in this area, she replied: “I would really like to see a government project.”
If not, then it is a bill of Parliament, but it seems to me that the bill should be the priority – the best bill to be developed. I would like to start a consultation for such a project as soon as possible. I think it’s a matter of a month before we start discussions. I will speak to the Prime Minister and strongly encourage him to do so
– Kotula announced.
She emphasized that the scope of action in the field of equality is very broad.
We will certainly take action on the urgent issues, namely withdrawing opposition to the next directive against violence against women. This must be done right now. There is also a law on changing the definition of rape, written by MP Anita Kucharska-Dziedzic and lawyer Danuta Wawrowska
– Kotula noted.
Other requirements
Among other important issues, she mentioned: personal assistance for people with disabilities and inclusion of hate speech in the Criminal Code.
Kotula explained that there is an equality office and a minister for equality, but no ministry. She added that her office is currently still at the Ministry of Family Affairs and Social Policy, but is currently being transferred to the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, although she already works in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.
She noted that PiS had plenipotentiaries for equal treatment and the last of them was Anna Schmidt.
In the good times of this plenipotentiary’s office, it was the name of the first plenipotentiary, Izabela Jaruga-Nowacka, but also of Prof. Małgorzata Fuszary, Prof. Magdalena Środa, Agnieszka Kozłowska-Rajewicz. They wrote the story of equality and anti-discrimination activities, and I would like to continue this story
– Kotula stated.
The new minister’s statements clearly indicate the direction in which the new coalition will go. This is a decisive turn to the left without respecting the will of more conservative voters (even the Third Way).
