We are the strongest opposition in history, both in terms of seats and votes; Important elections await us again and we must do everything we can to win them, PiS MEP and current leader of the Republican Party Adam Bielan told TVP Info on Saturday.
On Saturday, the Political Council for Law and Justice in Warsaw adopted a resolution on unification with the Republican Party.
Consolidation makes sense because I believe that the end of PiS is highly exaggerated. I believe in PiS and the Polish right wing in general and I believe that we can once again be responsible for the fate of our country if we work well through this time in the opposition; unity is what is especially needed in the opposition.
– said Bielan.
He emphasized that the decision to unite was not an impulsive decision by the members of his party.
The decision was virtually unanimous; only two people in our national council abstained this morning. Everyone supported this decision, so it was a very well thought out and correct decision
– said the politician.
He emphasized that members of the Republican Party also decide to join PiS individually, but – as he emphasized – only an integrated right-wing environment can oppose the currently ruling coalition.
We are the strongest opposition in history – both in terms of seats and votes. We still have an important election ahead of us: local elections, then European elections and finally presidential elections in 2025, and we must do everything we can to win these elections.
– said Bielan.
Next campaigns
He stressed that they must prepare very quickly for the next election campaigns, as the local government elections will take place in five months and the European Parliament elections will take place shortly afterwards.
If we want to regain influence over the fate of the country, and that is very necessary, at least because of what is happening in the EU – and while we were deliberating, we received information that already on Monday, during the next meeting of the EU, Council of Ministers of the EU, there will be an attempt to take another step towards treaty changes, and these are changes that pose a huge threat to Polish sovereignty (…). This is a major threat to us, so we must do everything we can to block these changes
– added the MEP.
