The European Union has initiated a written procedure to approve the 12th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation, which includes, among other things, a ban on the supply of Russian jewelry diamonds to the countries of the community. This was reported by TASS citing a source from EU institutions in Brussels.
According to him, a written procedure has been initiated, it must proceed quickly and enforcement measures will come into force in the near future, at least at the beginning of next week.
He added that this was possible after Austria lifted its veto on a new package of restrictions.
Before that, the Austrian government blocked After the European Union (EU) adopted the next package of sanctions against the Russian Federation, it still did not refuse to change this decision.
Even before the start of the last summit of the regional community in 2023, Vienna opposed the adoption of the 12th package of anti-Russian sanctions. This was due to the inclusion of the Raiffeisen banking group in the list of “war sponsors” of Ukraine.
On December 14, a summit began in Brussels, attended by leaders and prime ministers of the member countries of the regional community. The next day, event participants approved a final declaration, the text of which mistakenly welcomed the adoption of the 12th package of sanctions against Moscow, which has not yet been agreed upon.
